How can I go back to Logos 7?

From yesterday's reading, I'm not entirely sure I need L8. See what shows in 8.1. L7 works great.
Problem in all of Logos' rollouts ... don't know what is being lost. I heard 3 columns max, etc.
Faux gnus
Just to illustrate, on the blog, a user says the little link letters are mostly gone (from the user display ... they still work). The FL person glosses over, and I'm thinking, huh?
Folks seem excited over what they didn't get ... usable searches, etc. It's really interesting.

And that’s ok to respectfully disagree Cynthia, but I think it really downgrades the software and if I was looking to purchase a bible software package for the first time I would take one look at this and move onto a competitor. But I have invested too much in this product so that is not an option now
Cynthia in Florida said:doc said:It’s not the only aspect David, but it’s the first impression you get of the software and it is badly broken and makes the software look cheap. It should not of been released in this state. I’m glad your confident it will be fixed by 8.1.
The home page is supposed to be a show pony of Logos 8 and it looks like a malnourished underweight pony. It’s not your place to tell me I can not provide honest feedback on that.
David Taylor Jr said:doc said:I have to agree L8 home page is awful. Never liked the web app and now the desktop homepage looks awful too, it no longer looks like professional bible study software package but instead one for children. Added to the fact it’s incompete and we are being told we have to wait for a future update before we can remove all the marketing fluff from it, it does not give a good first chance impression of the software.
Honestly, if that is what you are judging all of L8 on I think you have severely missed the point. It's going to be fixed. It isn't fixed today. No sense going on and on about it, just move on.
Doc: I respectfully disagree. While the homepage isn't great, the program itself is better than ever, IMHO.

Alan, thanks for responding. they are custom reading plans, setup to use ESV, but when I click on the reading card it takes me to JPS I think. I’m at work at moment so can’t give you further details but if you need anything specific let me know and I can get back to you when home tonight. Also they no longer show up in the new mobile app, only pre-built plans show up as avail to add.
Alan Palmer (Faithlife) said:doc said:They take me to the wrong bible version. If I use the reading plan document it opens the correct version. So FL have bromen a workflow that was not broken.
doc, sorry you are having this issue. I'd like to know more about it so that I can work to resolve it for you. I haven't had any luck trying to get it to happen. Can you help me try to reproduce it? Anything unique about your setup that I can test? Are there certain steps that led to this behavior?

That’s the problem Denise, FL have focussed on the glossy stuff so they can say look we’ve got something new for you even though it wasn’t broken and i am yet to come across anything about how they have improved searching.

I’d much rather be crushing the country side in my little red car with some improvements under the hood to the engine rather than a sleek blue sports car with lots of dents in the body. Each to their own I guess when it comes to cars.

Old things have passed away and new things really are better. L8 is miles better even than the really great L7. Give it a chance and you will find yourself caught in the thrill of zooming around the corners in a sleek blue sports car, like never before.
L8 isn't wine in an old skin (hope I don't lose any denominations here) but new wine in a new skin! Don't backslide now!

Thanks for the info ... here in the forums people are complaining the link letters take up to much space :-) Yes, there have been arguments over how much information that was coded around the book cover icon was essential to bring over ..

Huh? perhaps on iphones?
But it is certainly no big deal as to when you upgrade ...

- "Customization of the Explore section is coming soon." https://community.logos.com/forums/p/173890/1003981.aspx#1003981
- This is being discussed internally; no plans have been announced yet.
- Under "Upcoming Features" in the Notes FAQ; no release date announced.
Can someone explain specifically how to go back to 7 on a MacPro? I'm a FL Connect member and downloaded 8 for free, but I don't have the time or desire to work through this rollout which actually loses functionality, and then have to wait an unspecified amount of time to maybe get back the functionality I currently had in 7. I don't ever use the web app, don't see the use or need. I purchased the desktop version for a reason--maximum functionality. I don't need or want a stripped down version. I'm not upset at all, just wasn't expecting a beta version to be released. I'd be glad to switch to 8 if/when all the functionality of 7 makes it way into 8. Until then, I just want to do what all I was able to do 48 hours ago. Thanks!

If you reset your Bible Reading Plan layout, does it start working correctly? If you have customized that layout, then it will use the Bible you specified in the layout, rather than the Bible in the reading plan.

As I understand since you are a connect member you don't have any choice. I believe Phil Gons said on 5th Nov all connect users would be forced on to the new notes tool and that implies you will be automatically upgraded to Logos 8 if you hadn't done so already. FL has really misread what users wanted when it comes to Logos 8 interface, they only listened to the portion of users who wanted change and did not listen to all users - but that is typical of FL, they only listen to users who are telling them what they want to hear.

That fixed this issue Andrew, thank you for chiming in with the solution. This was never an issue with Logos 7 for me.Does that mean I am forced to stick with the default reading plan layout for Logos 8 ?
Next issue is a card on the home page I don't want, that I can't get rid of because there is no menu to remove it. What am I missing ?

Interesting ... I'd object to that since I might be using Logos in a class setting and would not want to advertise PMI

I believe this is due to following the Precept Ministries group https://faithlife.com/precept-ministries-international/ on Faithlife. If you unfollow the group, the card should disappear.
Click the card to open the Precept Faithlife Group page, then use the three-dots menu on the far-right of the page to leave the group. You'll need to restart Logos 8 for the card to disappear.

That removed it but why is this one group single out to add a card if you follow it, but other groups do not? And why would you create a card with inconsistent with all the rest of the other cards, i.e. no menu? There are 4,861 followers of this group who are potentially going to be upgrading to L8 in the coming days, weeks or months so the result of this design decision is going to potentially confuse 4,861 users who potentially are going to reach out to FL for support on this issue because it is not obvious how to remove a card for this group. I hope you look at changing the this card in a coming release in order to make it consistent with all other cards.
I'm sorry I have to shake my head at you guys so often but you really just don't seem to think about the impact upon all users in what you do only the 'many users' who complained. You forget the 'many users' who are silent because they are happy with the way things are and are not looking for anything to be changed.

(I prefer the L7 layout, too.)
Look - you all aren't Verbum users who (a) had lectionary lose necessary functionality (b) had saints lose necessary functionally plus being built in a way that doesn't work with the resource it was built for (c) caught the fact the either Daily Devotional isn't working right or they incorrectly assigned type in the library ..... and that's just in the Dashboard ...
MJ I hope they get this fixed sooner rather than later, it's not acceptable for this to be done to Verbum users. It's disgraceful.

David, I have prioritized my Bibles, Dictionaries, Commentaries, Atlases and other Miscellaneous resources. For example, my number one prefferred Bible is ESV. But, where I go to church and where I use my IPad, the Bible of choice is NIV. In Logos 7 Desktop my Default Bible, as selected on my HomePage was NIV and that is the Bible that would show up on my IPad. But, in a search, since ESV was prioritied higher than NIV it showed up first.
Unfortunately this is what I am remembering and since I am now using Logos 8 I cannot go back and check my facts. I am just under the impression that in Logos 7 they were two different things.
But, I may be wrong . . . I often am.

HI John
I don't understand a couple of things here
John C Connell Jr. said:For example, my number one prefferred Bible is ESV. But, where I go to church and where I use my IPad, the Bible of choice is NIV. In Logos 7 Desktop my Default Bible, as selected on my HomePage was NIV and that is the Bible that would show up on my IPad
The default Bible selected on the homepage in Logos 7 was your highest prioritised Bible. And this propogated from desktop to mobile. So that explains why the NIV would show as preferred on the iPad
John C Connell Jr. said:But, in a search, since ESV was prioritied higher than NIV it showed up first.
Prioritisation does not affect search results in this way so not sure what you mean here. Any clarification?

Yeah, I don't like 8 at all. Used to be I put in a passage and the whole thing opened all my Bibles and several other resources and now it takes 10 minutes to open all the stuff that used to just open naturally. Having just a 'SEARCH' option is HORRIBLE! I want my 7 back.

Jon, you're more likely to get help if you start a thread with the issues you're having rather than posting to a thread that's been dormant for 7 months.
That said, it sounds to me like you're not liking the default Passage Study Layout (what opens when you type a passage into to Go box). This can be customized quite easily... Get your layout setup like you want it, including linksets, then from the Layouts menu select "Replace with current layout" next to the Passage Study layout in the Home Page Layouts section.
