Crashes and last used layout

I seem to recall that there are temporary snapshots that one can save as layout in the layout menu from time to time. But it seems that those are purged when the app crashes. This is really too bad cuz that would be handy to recover what one was doing quickly...

I know I can use history as a workaround, although it opens to the last section, not the actual spot where one was in a resource.

You get snapshots only if you change layouts in the session before the crash. Otherwise you have to use manually saved layouts. If your Startup setting is "Most recent layout..." a previous "Application closed" layout will be automatically restored after a crash.

No layout is purged following a crash.
