How to automatically save highlights to notebooks?

Hello,
On my iPad, I'm using a highlight style called "Tim Keller". It is in a palette that I have set up to save on my "Tim Keller" Notebook on my Logos 8 app on my MacBook. Works like a charm there.
However, on the iPad, when I use the "Tim Keller" highlight style it does not automatically save to the Tim Keller notebook. I have to edit each individual highlight and move it over to the Tim Keller notebook.
Am I missing something? Is there a way to set it up on my iPad like I have it on Logos 8 on my MacBook? Thanks!

I don’t believe this is a current option, but I could be wrong.

Currently, on your Mobile device, you need to long press the highlight, tap Edit Note, and you can choose the Notebook there.
We are looking at ways to make this easier to do in the future.

Why doesn’t it just use the way it is set up on Logos 8 on our computers by default?

Do you mean, why doesn’t it use the preferences set up on the desktop app?

Right. If I have my "Tim Keller" highlight set to save to "Tim Keller" notes document, why isn't that the default on Mobile as well? Shouldn't it be assumed I would want the same highlight functionality as what I have configured on my desktop?
The current functionality of having to move the highlight every time makes the iPad basically unusable for reading books for me.

That is reasonable. For clarification, the old App didn’t work that way either. FL certainly doesn’t want mobile only users abandoned, so a mobile UI fix will be required. FWIW - I think they need to bring back the “sticky” solution.

This is actually a significant annoyance when researching for a paper. I should be able to set a default notebook and have all my highlights drop into it. Even if the highlights just went into the last notebook, I would only need to set it once. It is tedious and unnecessary to expect users to open the edit note every time they highlight.

That is the "sticky" setting I mentioned. It should return!

AGREED.
BUMP for a simple UI fix to default notes to last notebook saved.

Agreed, i rarely bother with highlighting on the mobile anymore. And that normally is where I do most of my reading to highlight. No offence meant to Joe but the solution offered by FL just doesn’t cut mustard let alone provide for a satisfactory user experience of the app.

Or put the option in Settings (under the pancake menu). Either way this is an important feature for the software. I would rather highlight on my iPad than on my laptop, but it is cumbersome to have to edit every highlight to put it in the notebook I want it to reside in.

Thank you Phil. I don't take pleasure out of squeaking the wheel loudly but some things just need to be addressed otherwise the elephant will continue to make moving about in the room uncomfortable.

Not to hijack this thread but if at some point you can add a way to turn off certain notes while in mobile that would be great. When reading on my iPad sometimes I have highlights coming from other resources that take over the text making it impossible for me to highlight the text. Most recent example was highlights from my bible covering the entire MacArthur New Testament section I was reading.

This used to be possible under the old notes but was removed also under the new notes / mobile platform. Just another example of where FL put deadlines ahead of a properly developed new notes system an rolled out a very immature beta system that time has shown needed another 12 months plus development work before it should have even been consider for implementation.

Please, waiting for this fix. Should have the option to default a palette to specified notebook.

And the option to simply use the last used notebook till you intervene and specify a new notebook to be used. I really don’t use the one palette = one notebook approach but respect it works for others so both options need to be available.

Yes this needs fixing. I'm studying a book and I use highlights etc. Having to set the notebook for each is slow, cumbersome and certainly takes away from STUDY.

Hi all,
Wanted to follow up here to let you know that hour developers are starting to work on this problem, reduce friction, and offer similar functionality to our desktop app.
If you want to give feedback and be among the first to use it, join our beta on iOS or Android.

Hi Chuck,
It might still be a while before the update is available, but you are free to install the beta in the meantime.

I just wanted to tell Logos thank you for this being added in a recent iPad app update. This feature alone now makes it possible for me to read my seminary textbook reading with my iPad Pro and pencil instead of sitting at my computer.
I make a notebook for each class. Then, I have it to send highlights in the two assigned books to that one notebook. Then when I review for my quizzes I can simply look over my class notebook. I could do this before on my computer, but it is so nice being able to “lean back on the couch” with my tablet and pencil to do my readings.Thank you.

Has the update been rolled out for iPhone yet? If so, will it apply automatically, or does it require user interaction? --Thanks, Chuck

Hi Chuck,
Yes it has been rolled out. It is possible that your device is set up to install updates automatically. It is also possible that you may need to check for the latest update in the App Store.
You can check which version you have installed by tapping the Menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the lower right, tap Help, and then look for "Version" under "App Info".
The latest stable version is 8.10.0 (26), this is the one that includes this functionality. It is also included if you have installed the Beta.

Hi Joe,
I checked the version on my iPhone, and it is evidently even later than what you specified; it is v. 8.10.1 (0028).
Alas, after highlighting Bible text, I discovered that it still goes to No Notebook, even after I went to the Notes screen within the iOS app and selected my desired notebook. Please help.
Thanks,
Chuck

Hi, if this 'default highlighting notebook' setting has now been included, where do you find this setting in the windows desktop app?
Cheers,

Hi David
We can link notebooks to particular highlighting palettes which might give you what you want.
Please start a new thread in the desktop forum - https://community.logos.com/forums/155.aspx - and we’ll try to work this through with you

It's 2022 and unless I'm missing something in my attempt to highlight and assign notes today, this is still a problem on iOS where I have to assign EVERY highlight and note to a notebook manually. I have my highlights set to "active notebook" on the desktop app, but iOS does not seem to recognize an "active" or "last used" notebook. iOS continually defaults to "no notebook" for every new highlight and note.
When adding a note on iOS, the default icon is also continually set to "no icon" and seems to have no memory of the last setting. So if I want to be consistent, I literally have to spend a minute on every single last highlight and note both assigning it to a notebook, and then selecting an icon and icon color. This seems ridiculously inefficient and prohibitive. It would literally be as fast or faster for me to open up a separate notes app, type out the verse reference, and then my note. At least it would always be in the same file by default. Surely I'm missing something? There has to be a better/easier way assuming Logos staff use their own app regularly as this is such a fundamentally basic thing.
All it would take is a single button to set a default notebook or (better yet) just remember the last used notebook until switched on a local device. This should be simple.
Related side note: I'm also struggling to find a way to toggle highlight and note visibility on iOS per notebook. I have way too many notebooks from prior years and stuff is starting to overlap all over the place as I read my Bibles. Is this an option like it is with visual filters on the desktop app?

Bumping this too. I’m not able to set a default notebook for highlights either. Is this feature being worked on? It’s really frustrating to have to edit each highlight to set the notebook

Welcome to the forums, Zachary. The forum threads or the feadback on Feedbear are generally updated when the feature in implemented. It is uncommon to have intermediate status reports ... they simply add overhead.
