Bug 8.5 beta 1: Collections and Cloud Resources

Cloud Resources don't appear in collections - either in the library, or in the collections tool. There's no obvious reason for them not to - after all, all the metadata is there.

This is a problem, not least because it's natural to want to download all the resources in a particular collection.

It was an intentional choice, because initially collections could not be used with anything in the application without resources downloaded. We didn't think about the use case of downloading resources in a collection. We'll reconsider the situation.

I got used to the Collections representing what was On Device. It's easy enough to apply dynamic collection Rules to Library and download from there.

With part/full static resources, the Collection will only generate with downloaded resources e.g. with no Rule and/or no Plus/Minus resources. So how do you handle Plus and Minus resources, especially with a long list of Plus resources in the original?

Keep collections as they are.

Please consider it strongly, it will make downloading cloud resources much more efficient to be able to simply download an entire collection. I posted about my ordeal with not being able to use collections to down resources here: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/186928.aspx.

Andrew, Can you please revisit this? I can use {Devices [devicename]} in Collections, and it works for resources that are on other devices. What would be the one for "downloaded" or "not downloaded"? I've tried {Devices "Not on This Device"} and {Devices "This Device"} and neither work.

While Collections natively may only look at downloaded devices, using the {Devices} work around would effectively solve this problem.

See my previous post on this. Search already has a Cloud section for resources not on your computer, which I can disable. I don't like the idea of searching cloud resources if they will be listed in collections (explicit or implicit). And it could force users to Hide resources rather than download/remove resources as needed.

I can use {Devices [devicename]} in Collections, and it works for resources that are on other devices.

Like other filters {Devices [devicename]} will only list resources that are on your computer.

Yes, but if that search parameter is an option, then "-{Devices [devicename]}" or "ANDNOT {Devices [devicename]}" are now options. This would allow searches to specifically exclude anything not on the computer. This setting can then be used in collections to limit collections to only resources that have been downloaded.
