My church wants to do a double tithes on Easter Sunday. This is the second time the church has requested double. What do you guys think?
I think this is a bit off-topic for this forum, but the first, middle and last parts of 2Cor 9:7 come to mind.
I don't think it's an appropriate Logos topic. [:#]

Nicole, this would be a fantastic way to use your Logos. Look up the subject of tithing and make a list of all the stipulations. Once you have an understanding of what tithing was and wasn't you will be in a good place to make a judgment concerning your churches request.
I did that and came away with a totally new understanding of tithing.
Sounds like a great idea/opportunity. Is it for a specific need or project? If it is, God's grace can help your church to abound unto every good work. (I am a pastor so I am biased [:D])
The guideline of 2 Cor 9:6-7 is applicable here... for your church to suggest 20% is not wrong in itself.... its a goal, but you should focus on God's ability and give joyfully what you believe God wants you to contribute.(in reality some should give much more and will)
I hope it goes well and God is glorified and His work prospers.
Anyone else have a suggestion on how to search or a specific resource in Logos?
Blessings
Try searching your Library for the phrase "double portion"
Joe, if someone were to do this search in Logos Bible Software wouldn't they just find out that God is the one who gives a "double portion", be it a blessing or a punishment?
tithe NEAR double (with Match All Word Forms turned on to catch "doubling," "doubled," "tithes," etc.) gives a pretty good set of hits for me
Acts 4:32-37 would be another passage worth exploring that raises related issues.

I will save the theology for my blog :-)
Do a simple search for tithe, look at the context is the tithe being applied to Israel or the body of Christ!
By the way a person might want to check out when the OT ended and the NT started. Look .up such words as New Testament and New Covenant read the context what had to happen before the NT started!
Did Jesus live in the OT or the NT???
Is the idea of the tithe any different than the idea of the Sabbath?
In Christ,
Jim
