Visual Filter Question

I have setup a Visual filter doc for the Book of Nehemiah. I have entered the names of a PERSON ("Harsha" - Neh 7:54) and have formatted it GREEN in the VF. I have also added the name of a PLACE ("Tel Harsha" - Neh 7:61) and have assigned the colour BROWN to it. Here's my dilemma: If a PERSON and have a PLACE happen to have (or share) the same NAME, how do I make sure the right colour is assigned to the word in their respective occurences in the book?

Illustration: HARSHA

1. In Neh 7:54 it refers to a PERSON. It is coloured GREEN as set up by the VF.

2. In Neh 7:61 HARSHA is part of the name of a PLACE (Tel Harsha). However, HARSHA is coloured GREEN and and TEL is coloured BROWN.

In short, how can I make HARSHA green in Neh 7:54 and TEL HARSHA brown in Neh 7:61 using the VF? I know someone will say "just remove HARSHA from the VF and then highlight the word in GREEN in the bible text (Neh 7:54)." That's doable since the person HARSHA is only mentioned once in Nehemiah. But what if both the name of a PERSON ("Gilead") and the name of the PLACE ("Gilead") are mentioned multiple times?

Is there a way using VF to resolve my dilemma?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Try using Person and Place tagging as below

To determine the exact search string, right-click the word, select the Person / Place and run a Bible search. Copy that search field to the visual filter

Thanks Graham for your helpful advice which certainly resolved my issue with HARSHA and TEL HARSHA.

I have another question for you. In Neh 7:25 (NKJV) we have the phrase "the sons of Gibeon" which refers to a PERSON. In support of this fact, there is a cross-reference to Ezra 2:20 where it is translated GIBBAR (a person).

Interestingly, when you do a Place Search for Gibeon (<Place Gibeon>) in Nehemiah, it returns 2 results (Neh 3:7 - "the men of Gibeon" (definitely a PLACE) and Neh 7:25 - "the sons of Gibeon" (definitely a PERSON but tagged as a PLACE!). Since Ezra 2:20 links the person GIBBAR to the person GIBEON, it seems that Logos has wrongfully tagged Gibeon in Neh 7:25 as a Place.

Here's my new dilemma: In the Places VF I have setup, I added (<place Gibeon>) which wrongfully (?) colours BOTH instances of Gibeon in Nehemiah (BROWN). How can I flag Gibeon in Neh 7:25 in the GREEN VF (Persons) when Logos has already coloured it as a PLACE?  I can't  use <person Gibeon> since Logos does know any person named Gibeon in Nehemiah.

Do you have a work-around for that one?

This should be reported as a data bug, attention Sean - these errors get corrected only if we report them. I'll report this for you.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Hebrew Bible right click shows lemma combination of Person (Gibeon) & Place (Hill) in one word:
