Older Commentaries on Luke 15:11-32

Have been waiting for https://www.logos.com/product/15463/the-speakers-commentary   [1880 or so] 

But it has not been released yet.   Are there other commentaries from the the 1850's or even earlier in Logos.

I know [or think I know] what the modern commentaries say on the story of Luke 15:11-32 [prodigal son]

I would like to examine how older ones treat the older son.  All of the ones I have forget that the father left him in the field all day. And forget that he does not know that his brother has repented.  [They also seem to forget that he now owns the farm and is not working for his father but for himself.]

    Here are some from my library

    I think it might be possible to filter the resources on logos.com by publication date but I'm afraid I don't know the syntax.

    David, 

    I use the Preachers homiletical commentary a fair bit, and it's good, the volumes I have used anyway.  Also use the the Bile illustrator.  Both were written in the 1800's.  Both are good for sermon prep.

    I have been in on the Speaker's Commentary since placing my bid on December 26, 2013!  I also look forward to it eventually making it into production.

    As you may well know, archive.org has a lot of older commentaries not available in any of the various Bible software programs.  So, you may want to dig around in archive.org for older commentaries that Logos does not currently have released.

    Here is a link to Luke 15:11 for the Speaker's Commentary...then just scroll through the pages to see the comments for the rest of the passage you are looking at.

    Just like all the others: they complain that the older “instead of rejoicing that his lost brother was found,” he “responds with resentment” But this is in V 28. He does not find out that “his lost brother was found” until V 32. All he knows here is that the 'scoundrel' has returned!

    And did he rejoice after finding out that his brother was found? (repented, changed, not just returned)  Whoops – we are not told.

    We are just repeating what our elders told us without fully examining the scriptures for ourselves. [IMHO]
