issue of Automatic Updates and Use Internet set to No and receiving the
prompt to update the program..i keep these turned Off to avoid inadvertent updates/indexing, it
also allows increased speed for my slower computer (see signature
below). i can't reproduce obviously
(until the next update). Could well be that i saw the update on the
forum and temporarily turned Auto Update On. i will try to
remember to be on the watch next time an update comes out (have prepub
due 4/5).Thanks

George,
With
today's LEB update, i closed L4 and then reopened it. You will notice
that i have Auto Update set to No and i have Use
Internet set to No. This is what i was explaining in my earlier post (see Post)

I see I thought you were referring to the Yes No dialog that pops-up when the program starts with an update. This effect you are experiencing is by design - even if use internet is set to no it is still important to know that the program needs to be updated.

i see. i thought this was probably normal behavior.
My reply to Darren, was to help clarify to the OP user that he could also turn Off Use Internet and it would still prevent automatically updating his system (as he wanted control over when the updates were to be performed). This may have been a better option for that user since he was using L4 in a Bible study presentation and using the internet was probably not necessary.
Darren Paul Wright said:Also, if Logos is indexing you can
right-click on the icon in the system tray and select "Pause indexing
for four hours". But yes, if you are using this as a presentation
machine, I would recommend setting "Automatically download updates" to
no, but leave "use internet" to yes, then you will be prompted when an
update is available.steve clark said:Darren,
i have my program set to both Off (automatic updates & Use
Internet to No), and when opening the program it still prompts me when
updates (for L4 or resources) are available. But i can choose to refuse
the update until a more convenient time. FWIWSorry for all the wordiness here, but still think it might be useful info for others who might view these posts.
Thanks for Yours and Darren's help here on the forum!

So to clarify, even when you set Logos to not use the internet, it still uses it for certain things?

It will only check for updates - not download anything. So I think maybe we should change the wording of the corresponding help tool-tip in program settings to reflect this.

[Y] Some people on this forum are paranoid enough about the cloud integration of L4 as it is, let's not fan the flames.

When "Use Internet" is set to "No", the program will not connect to the Internet. The Help text is correct.
You may be prompted to download updates that were detected during a previous run of the program (when Use Internet was set to Yes). This does not mean that the program used the Internet to detect those updates during this session.

What setting did you change to actually download the update?
How soon after the download did you revert to the 2 x NO settings?
(Can you see where I'm heading wrt to Bradley's response?)
