Logos indexes way too often

I don't know if this is how Logos is meant to behave, but the whole program indexes basically whenever I'm using it and, apparently, even when I'm not using it. The real problem here is that the program is indexing when I startup my computer and there's no way to disable that. This is already unacceptable from a user standpoint since it's taking up startup resources which I have never authorized it to use. What makes this particularly baffling, though, is that I haven't purchased any more resources for Logos to index, anyway.
My question is how to disable indexing unless it's actually necessary to index resources. If the program really needs to index my resources every single time I boot up my computer, even if I don't use it for months at a time, then there's something wrong with the indexing function.
For reference, I've got Logos 7 (7.19.0.0037), so everything is up to date. I don't have a SSD, as much as I would love to, but that's no reason for Logos to index with confounding regularity. Recently, I turned off "Use Internet" in the program settings, and I'm hoping that will mitigate some of this problem.

Internet
Change automatically download to NO
this will stop stuff downloading in background, and forcing the reindexing, but leave your machine on until it completes this cycle
you can force update by typing UPDATE NOW
or Resources by UPDATE RESOURCESNever Deprive Anyone of Hope.. It Might Be ALL They Have

Wow, thanks for the heroically fast response! Hopefully this internet setting sorts out the indexing. Thanks a bunch!

The program never indexes when it is not necessary. If may be reindexing the resource metadata or datasets et. al. where you may not see the need for indexing unless you check the forum update or program update notices ... or you may have a defective resource or drive so that indexing never successfully completes. If it is truly every time, call customer service and have them check why.

Resources, metadata, and datasets are updated regularly. No new resources doesn't mean nothing indexed has changed. I suspect you have a narrower view of what "indexing means" than what is used by the software.

Welcome [:D]
Logos 7.19 SR-1 was released on 23 May 2019 so still works while being unsupported. Curious about not upgrading to Logos 8 ?
Logos 8 Basic is free (with Maintenance Support until Logos 9 is freely available next year).
Personally have automatic downloads set to No (allows me to choose when to download & index).

Logos indexing has SSD optimizations (performs better than a spinning hard drive).

Thanks for the precision. A defective resource definitely sounds like a possibility, and you're right in that "indexing" is a frustratingly mysterious thing to me. All things considered, my use of Logos is quite basic and I'm not thinking too far beyond the raw resources themselves and some of the Greek functions.

I probably ougta look into that. Thanks for the notice!

That seems to be the solution that saves the day. Thanks!

One idea is enabling diagnostic logging (albeit slows down indexing some when using a hard drive). Once Indexer icon disappears, can look for "indexing completed" messages in Indexer.log file (Bible Index, Library Index, and Personal Book Index), which also has elapsed time for that index. Defective resource causing indexer to crash would have messages near end of Indexer.log file (along with not having completed messages). Logos Wiki has => Diagnostic Logging with Mac section having: Logos Help Center (LHC) includes How-to-Enable-and-Submit-Log-Files
Note: if Windows laptop is shut down before indexing completes, then indexing starts over.

I am not convinced that this is technically accurate, even though it does go back to 0%.

If you have a lot of collections Logos will index each time that it starts up.

I'm using L8 Basic on OS X and I have automatic downloads set to No. However indexing always begins on startup, which is highly undesirable. I will try setting Use Internet and Download New Resources also to No. This irritating software behavior is affecting my daily computer use.

Is it indexing or is it application setup in memory? Preparing library does not equal indexing. It is desirable to have the application do it's basic setup to run rather than waiting for it on each of your initial commands.

I know this takes significant set up time, but I wouldn't call it indexing - I'd call it initializing or setup

MJ, it's indexing on OS boot. It gives the option to "pause indexing for 4 hours".

Default Indexer configuration is launching Indexer at macOS user login, which can be changed. Logos Wiki has => https://wiki.logos.com/macOS_Troubleshooting#Indexer_Automatic_Launch
FYI: personally using default configuration on a 2019 model 5K 27" iMac running macOS 10.15.7 that has a fast internal SSD.

Wonder if indexing completes ? Suggest finding a time when do not plan to use Mac so can let Indexer run for hours (may need to change Energy Settings to keep computer from sleeping). Also may want to enable diagnostic logging: Logos Wiki => Diagnostic Logging as the Indexer.log file can show Indexer completed for the three indexes: Bible, Library, Personal Books with elapsed time. If Indexing is not completing, the Indexer.log file should be helpful for problem determination and resolution.
Curious about Mac model and macOS version ?

Thanks for helping! Yes several times I've checked and seen "synchonization is enabled and all [...] are up to date" or something like that.
Macbook is 2009 on 10.11.

Yes, thanks! This is what I want to do. Much appreciated!

Does 2009 MacBook still have original hard drive ? If yes, have you thought about Solid State Disk (SSD) to noticeably improve responsiveness ?
I Fix It has a hard drive replacement guide => https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Core+2+Duo+Hard+Drive+Replacement/514 with easy rating.
Logos has optimizations for SSD. FYI: new Apple Silicon Mac models are awesomely fast (albeit only can run 64 bit applications).

Not sure it's worth getting an SSD for this old machine. As for a newer machine, budget realities... Perhaps a newer secondhand machine in time. I think the command line setting will suffice for now!

Appreciate quandary while hoping to replace a 2013 MacBook Air with 16" Apple Silicon MacBook Pro next year (if budget allows).
SSD for old MacBook would noticeably improve responsiveness in all applications plus SSD could later become a Time Machine external backup drive for a newer Mac. Thankful for Apple refurbished Mac models => https://www.apple.com/shop/refurbished/mac and MacSales => https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/specials?&filter.catidpath=4160#top-of-results (noticing many 2020 Mac models with older Intel CPU's displaced by Apple Silicon)

Thanks for links and suggestions. The old Mac is close to obsolescence. May look for a 2011 model? Or Windows equivalent.

Got a 2012 Windows laptop. Changed to SSD. Installed Logos with a subset rather than all resources. Much better now ':)
