Is it possible to view number of search results for each resource (in separate window)?

After I run a search, I open the first "hit" (something I want to look at) in a separate window. Then I select "send all hyperlinks here) in that first window and go back to the search results and move through clicking on any result I want to look at further (they all go to the separate window).

I then have a single (separate) window with several tabs that I can maximize and go through all the curated search results. The question is:

For each tab (that has highlighted all the results within that particular resource) is there a way to view a total number of results (i.e. a total number in the Locator Bar or on the bar with the visual filters?

There are the yellow bands on the scroll bar (which is nice) but I'm hoping for a numeral total displayed somewhere. Is this possible?

Also, is there a way to default to search results (instead of Article) when opening a resource from a search results? Currently it opens to Article (8 tabs gets me there, but that seems somewhat excessive).

This isn't necessary (and doesn't affect behaviour in this particular case). This is to force results of a particular type to go to a particular matching resource. So we can select a particular open Bible to be the target of all Bible references etc.

You, Sir, are correct! Thanks for the tip. No need to select "send all hyperlinks here." Impressive functionality. It works great for pulling quotes and references from all my resources based on keyword relational search strings. It's working great so far.

Yes. In lieu of having it default to "Search Results" for all open tabs, I have been using the yellow bands on the side bar. Then again, most of my resources have only one result anyway. The biggest issue is the yellow bands for the search results are very faint and hard to see, especially if the brightness on my monitor is turned down (to conserve the battery when without electricity) or there is a glare on the screen (or its 2am and I really should have gone to bed 3 hours before).

The other trouble with the yellow bands is when there are results grouped closely together. I have difficulty differentiating between individual results and selecting them.

I don't really understand the question, but there are a number of ways you can see the total count of results:

In the Basic Search panel if searching By Resource or By Count
Inside the resource, by using an Inline Search

This is disappointing. Not the end of the world. But...still....

I'm searching books and other non-bible resources, so there is an inherent potential need to read more indepth than what the search results allows for (small window - want large print large screen). Plus, once I open a resource for it's desire search results, all the other results for that given resource seem to come along for the ride. I often default to scrolling to the top of the book and move through all the search hits (even if they weren't the original reason I wanted to open it). This is why I was hoping to get "search results" as default. I am finding, though, that "search results" is coming up first whenever I open most resources. Not sure if the individual resource "remembers" the last instance it was opened at previously. It is not 100% of the time but it is certainly more often than when I first started.

I've actually found the yellow bands on the scroll bar to be more efficient than having to switch to "search results." Like I stated previously the only two drawbacks for the bands are those clustered together are hard (impossible) to click and the bands themselves are often hard to see.

I don't really understand the question, but there are a number of ways you can see the total count of results:

In the Basic Search panel if searching By Resource or By Count

Inside the resource, by using an Inline Search

In #1, there certainly is the total count, but this is for the aggregate of all results found in all resources listed. The second underlined total in the initial search results it the total results of that individual resource (which is what I want), but it is on the initial search results window and not in the opened window with the multiple tabs for each resource. I was hoping this total would follow over to the individual resource after opening it in a separate window, but it does not.

#2 would be great (and this is what I'm looking for) except I would have to run the inline search in each individual resource to get the total count for that resource (and this is not feasible).

When I get the initial search results (#1) and I find a result I want to read in context, I hold down the SHIFT key and click on the highlighted result. This opens the resource in a new window and takes me to the result. But, all the other results for that resource from the original search query are highlighted in the resource as well. This is the total number I'm wanting to see (after running a Basic search, not individual inline search).

Reason:

I'm running relational queries on hundreds of personal and standard logos titles to mine the content against a comprehensive outline of keywords. When I find a hit in the initial search results that I want to investigate further, I open it in the separate window. Once all the interesting results are opened in that separate window as tabs, I move away from the initial search results to the separate window to read further. This second window is maximized to full screen for ease of reading. I was hoping the total for each resource could easily be seen in this separate window.

Your suggestion of the inline search results is ideal (it displays the total) but I can't run individual searches on hundreds of titles (well, I guess I technically could, but that would defeat the leveraging power of the basic search feature...)

I can only suggest you use the Inline Search at this point (copy and paste from your Basic Search), as it will provide the search total.

A screen shot would help because I can't get one separate window with resources opened as tabs using SHIFT-click from the initial Search window. Are you on Mac?

I'm probably not explaining it quite right. I've attached 2 screen shots below (I'm on an Acer laptop with Win 10).

Screen Shot 1. This is my initial search results window showing the Anchor Bible Dictionary Vol 5 and Biblical Doctrines results. Sometimes I will have hundreds of results in hundreds of articles, usually in 20-30 resources (this varies wildly). I will look through the results on each resource and the first one I'm interested in (example, Anchor Bible > Parabolic Corpus > new wine), I will hold the SHIFT key down and single tap on my trackpad (left click mouse). This will open this resource in a new window and will land on "new wine." As I then move through the search results in the initial results window, I just left click on any entry I'm interested in and that resource will open in the second window as a tab. When I'm finished going through all the resources in the search results, I have a second (detached) second window that is full of tabs with all the results in each highlighted (interestingly, I cannot execute another search in the original search window or all the highlights in the second, detached window disappear - which to me is quite odd).

I typically have it maximized or mostly maximized (make room for my video player so I can watch tv in the top right corner of the screen while I'm working). Originally I had hoped there was a way to get a search results total just to the left of the "search results" drop down in the second window, but there is apparently no way to do this. Reasoning: after I select one search result for a given resource, that opened tab in the second window already contains all of the search results for that resource, even if I didn't click on them. I had hoped to see at a glance how many results there were in the second window for the search criteria in that given resource as I work through each tab in the second window (original search results window is not only typically covered up by the second window by this point, but it would be difficult to go back and forth and line up each resource it its entry.

Instead I hover my mouse over the scroll bar which brightens the yellow bands (somewhat) so I can get a rough estimate. This is better than nothing. If there is only one entry I know not to bother with switching to "search results" in the drop down. If there are quite a few yellow bands, then switching from "article" to "search results" might be warranted.

I cannot replicate this, as I get a separate Floating Window for each resource (that is what we call your "second window" or "detached window").

That is normal when you start a new Search. Open another Search window to avoid this e.g. drag the Search icon from the top toolbar into your layout. EDIT: search totals for a resource will now come from one or two windows.

Correct, all search results are highlighted in the resource. If you want to see Search results totals, why not drag the Search window into the floating window as a new column or tab (watch the "shadow" as you drag it to see how and where it will open).

It would be better to manually note the search totals as you move through the results in the Search window (this will avoid scrolling thru the results later on).
