Started the download for the third time and ran it for 12 hours, shows 60%. Restarted after 8 hrs the icon shows 60%- restarted a third time after 2hrs shows 60% - any one have a solution?

A little malt with about two thirds water is the nicest solution that I know.
As to your downloading problem.
If you go to Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities/Console and run it you should get an idea if the application is doing anything at all.
I take it that you are downloading the resources to L4 rather than the alpha itself?
