Please help me, guys!

I've just built a new PC, with Win 7 Pro (64bit) on a 750GB drive, and also a 1.5TB drive for general storage.

I plan to keep all my apps on the OS drive, and use the storage drive for my document, pictures, and all other sorts of stuff.

I need to know how I go about installing Logos. I bought the ver. 3 Leaders Library while in the US 3 summers ago, and have it on my laptop.

However, I have also purchased the Logos 4 Leaders upgrade as a download (but not yet downloaded it.

So - please help me. What do I need to do? Do I install version 3 and then upgrade, or do I download version 4 straight off?

Ken,

Download V3 and then make sure you load every resource, then sync your licenses.

Once you've done that....load L4.

It should load everything automatically.

If it doesn't. then just "tell it where everything is" by opening L4 and typing this in the command line:

scan C:\program files\libronix\resources

(or where ever your L3 resources are)

you should be good to go...

You can install L4 straight off and it will automatically download the files that are associated with your license. If you have bought anything in L3 format since and not synced your licenses you will want to do that first.

In your position I would install both. You are permitted to. Personally I would install L3 first, especially as you are familiar with it. When you open it synchronise your resources with Logos. Then install L4 via the download. It may be helpful to view the Logos install video first so you can see what is going on. It's called Before You Install Logos 4 and you can find it here http://www.logos.com/videos and scrolling down to Tutorials. It's the first video.

I agree that you should install both. Logos 4 is very familiar and very different from Libronix. I recommend having both in case you don't have time to go through the learning curve of Logos 4.

I would check with tech support first. They told me NOT to install anything from disks as they have older software not compatible with Windows 7. She told me that if I was going to install L3 for the updates that are only available in L3 format, that I could call and they would unlock the resources for L4. So, Unless you want to run both versions, it's not necessary. If you do, it was suggested that everything be downloaded, rather than installing from existing disks.

I have several questions that make a difference in my answers:
1) Do you have fast, affordable, reliable internet access?
You mentioned being in another country. Logos 4 will consume quite a bit of bandwidth to install.
2) Are you hoping to install your resource files in your second drive?
Logos 4 does not install it's resources in the same manner or place that Version 3 does. I'm not sure Windows 7 allows the appdata folder to be on the second drive. I just started using Win7 and installed everything as Microsoft recommends so others will have to address this issue. Dave Hooton will know.
3) Are you planning on using both Version 3 and Version 4? It is possible to maintain a Version 3 installation with synched licenses without putting all your resources on the drive but with all that space I would recommend putting everything there for both versions to be usable. Version 3 resources can reside on the storage drive along with PBB resources. Also, maintaning Version 3 helps simplify installing 3rd party CDs. They are still making neat stuff on CD.

That makes sense. Since I broke down and bought a new computer, and I really do like the L4, I've decided not to install L3 on the new computer.

New computer...[:D] Wow! what a difference!. The old laptop says it's a 1.4 Pentium M. Satellite Pro 15 about 7 years old.

New computer is:

Dual Core 2 dual 2.2 ghz 2 mb L2 Cache.

4 GB PC2 6400 800 MHZ DDR2 SODIMM

HD is 160gb SATA II Notebook Drive

Mobile Intel GM 45 Express Chipset

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500

Windows 7 Home Premium

This should do me quite well with my 650 Books and I don't do mega reports.

I've found Windows 7 makes a huge difference even on my older hardware. 4GB RAM also makes an obvious improvement.

The best part is how Logos 4 indexes everything. Morris Proctor made it really easy to understand what the process involves. (I'm so glad I got to go to Camp Logos.)

re. Internet access, I'm in Scotland, and have broadband that averages out at around 16MB, so downloading big files is not really a problem.

I would, ideally, like to keep all the resources on the 1.5TB drive, keeping the OS drive as free of clutter as possible (and as a result keeping it fast)

I am on holiday for two weeks at present, so I'm not preaching today. Up in Banff I only, after nagging BT about poor connections, get between a variable 1.5 and 5 Mbps. Also I upgraded this month to an unlimited download package, since Logos 4's frequent large downloads had twice in recent months pushed me over my limit and I was surcharged for it.

Donald is a good neighbour and brother, as is Dave Randall in Macduff, who is retiring after 39 years in that parish. (I know David his son a little, but know him to be as sound as a pound.) I am blessed to have such good men of God around me.

I would still put L3 on as well, because it can do things that are not yet available in L4.

I LOVE Windows 7. It's never been so easy to get a new computer set up as this time. It found all computers, printers, etc.

I'm having a bit of trouble getting used to where everything is in the task bar and now shooting my mouse cursor away from where I'm typing and bring up another program. But I'll get it gradually. I tend to rest my wrists where they shouldn't be.

Just do a custom install to the 1.5 TB drive. All my installations are custom, usually to another partition on the same HD eg. specify drive E:\ to the installer and it will put everything into E:\Logos4.
