Search for returns all results of מַשְׁחִית (destroyer)

As I searched the LEB and LHB for <Sense teacher> I got unexpected results: matches to מַשְׁחִית. My basic but reliable Swanson's lexicon doesn't list "teacher" as a possible meaning of mashchit. So, is the lexicon missing a meaning, or is the search returning wrong results?

Note: I also got the expected results for matches to מוֹרֶה.

Read Thompson, Jeremy. Bible Sense Lexicon: Dataset Documentation. Bellingham, WA: Faithlife, 2015. to understand what the <sense> datatype refers to.  It is based on a linguistic theory of word nets. You used the default operator which is the requested sense and all senses below it in the hierarchy. Teacher in the BSL is:

    Err 1

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Picking up on MJ's point it is the word destroyer at the end of one of the branches that is returning the unexpected results you are seeing

By default, the sense search (without any operators) searches for the sense and all "lower" senses in the tree. To force it to just search for the sense you are interested in use <Sense = teacher>

    Thanks Graham,

That helps. The question behind the question is, Where do we see God as a teacher? I'm especially interested in the Father's activity as a teacher in the OT.

    Blessings

You could try a Clause Search - something like subject:God sense:to teach

It's worth checking a range of possible senses to try to cover all the options.
