Indexing of certain Resources for Topics

Hi, I recently purchased the MacArthur Topical Bible, which is a great resource.
When I search in the Logos Topic Guide for Major Topic Headings like Rain, Rebuke, Majesty, Justification, etc
the search returns results from many resources including
The New Topical Text Book
New Naves Topical Bible
Multiple Bible Dictionaries
But I get no results from the MacArthur Topical Bible.
Since this is a Topical Bible and I'm searching for a Topic in the Logos Topic Guide, I would expect the major topic headings to be indexed as Topics that would be found in a Topic search.
I tried to refresh (F5) the Logos Topic Guide (an option under the 3 vertical dots on the upper right), but it made no difference.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

It is my understanding that the "Topic Guide" is a curated list. If the MacArthur Topical Bible has not been tagged for the "Topic Guide," results will not show.

Thanks JT, I'm always using a word in the curated list of the Logos Topic Guide
As you can see below the greyed out word "Topic" appears after I type in the Word Justification in the search bar
The Topic guide returns this topic in many resorces, but not in the MacArthur Topical Bible
Same thing searching on the curated word "Rain"
I can search within the MacArthur Topical Bible as shown below, but not from the Logos Topic Guide
It looks like all the indexing is there for the Logos Topic Guide to find these entries, but it's not turned on for this resource.

Hi JT, when you say the MacArthur Topical Bible may not be tagged for the Logos Topic Guide, it appears you mean that they need to turn on the Topic Guide for the MacArthur Topical Bible.
Do you know how we can persuade FaithLife to turn on the Topic Guide for the MacArthur Topical Bible?
It seems any Topical Bible should be turned on for the Topic Guide.

No, I meant that it may not be tagged.
In your screenshots where you perform a SEARCH, Logos is looking for the same characters. When you run a guide, it is looking for the same topic.
In a search, "fondness" ≠ "tenderness." Logos is looking for the characters F-O-N-D-N-E-S-S (in that order). A search for fondness will never pull up tenderness.
In a topic guide, "fondness" = "tenderness" (as a hypothetical example) because Logos has manually tagged those topics together.
I could be wrong, but I believe the problem is that The MacArthur Topical Bible is not TAGGED for topics.

Thanks JT,
do you know or does anyone know how can we ask FaithLife to Tag or Turn on Topics for the MacArthur Topical Bible?

You can use Layouts to save any configuration you'd like including MTB and have it at your fingertips upon demand. I present an example I use for Topic Study with MTB see below. You add MTB by selecting the Add Tab icon (Red arrow) select library icon locate MTB and drag and drop new tab close library and your in business; don't forget to add it to your link set. To save your work go to Layouts hover to the far right of Topic Study select circle with upright triangle icon and then select Replace with current Layout. Now you can select this Topic Study layout from your dropdown menu when you enter a topic into the Command Box. It's not perfect, but it's serviceable. You'll get used to its idiosyncrasies.Greg said:Does anyone have any suggestions?

For now until FaithLife/Logos can turn on the MacArthur Topical Bible, I made a Favorite Folder including my favorite Topical Resources
If a Topical resource is opened from the Topic Guide, you might find that the MTB will open (e.g. from Favorites) to the same article. Alternatively, click on the "Parallel resource sets" icon of the opened resource and you should find MTB is listed. Click to open in the same panel.
The "Parallel resource" matching uses the topic names already in the resource. There is some flexibility, so you should find MTB listed.

This is one of the "value-added" efforts that makes Faithlife resources more costly (and IMHO more useful) since it is a manual process that Faithlife staff has to do to connect a heading in MTB with a topic in the Faithlife index. Same is true of Vine's Topical or Thompson Chain Reference or [name of topical index]. This is taking an older "paper index" and integrating it into search capabilities.

Thank you Beloved Amodeo
I tried using your method to use the command bar, to use the Topic Study Layout Tool, to search for a word, like "Zeal". I had not used this command bar that much in the past for this purpose.
I see now that the Topic Study Layout command in the command bar opens 3 tabs
Factbook
Topic Guide
Word Study
All 3 tools searching for the one word placed in the command bar!
Wonderful!
Although the MacArthur Topical Bible does not show up in the "Topic Guide tab" that is generated, it does show up in the "Bible Word Study tab" that is generated automatically with the command bar, when I only requested the "Topic Study Layout" drop down option in the command bar for the word entered into the command bar.
And many other Topical Bibles and Dictionaries also show up found in the "Bible Word Study tab"!
Wonderful!
And when I click on the hyperlink they show up in a split screen to the lower right!
And when I click on verse links, they appear in the split screen on the upper right!
Wonderful again!
How is it I have not discovered this powerful "TOPIC STUDY LAYOUT" tool earlier!
Thank you!
This is helpful!

I have noticed that sometimes on opening the MTB, it opens to the last "searched word" in open searches.
Other times it opens to the "last word open" that I looked at when I had the MTB open last.

Yes this is a wonderful idea to use the Parallel Resource Icon!
I select the Naves Topical Bible and Search for "Justification"
Then I search for Parallel Resources and it finds that the MacArthur Topical Bible also has an article on Justification
Then, when I click to select the MacArthur Topical Bible, it opens up at the article on Justification
Wonderful!
What a great tool I did not know about before!
Thank you!

With these new tools in mind, I created two Folders in my Favorites:
1. Topical & Thematic Searches
2. Topical & Thematic Books
This way I can remember to use the tools you all taught me.
However it would still be very nice to have the MacArthur Topical Bible "Tagged" for the Topic Guide, rather than having to use secondary tools to find a topic in the Topic Guide.

Marvel at this. Do you all realize that this request now says "Done"![:D]Mattillo said:Edit:Maybe they're going to roll this out with their next Update; as upon checking I fail to notice the change.[:(]

Wonderful Beloved!
That was probably a quick thing to update! Thank you FaithLife/Logos or whoever tagged the MTB as Concordance.
Tagging for the Topic Guide would probably take more effort. So far I have not seen any improvement in searching with the Topic Guide.
But now that the MacArthur Topical Bible is tagged as a concordance, and topical it will come up more often in searches for topics and words, than when it was a monograph.
We see below that it is now tagged as Concordance, and also as a Topical Resource
So now when I search all concordances, like this below, it will be included in the search
Since someone also tagged this resource as Topical, I prefer to search Resources tagged Topical, like this below
This is even better than searching in Concordances, when I search for topics.
So now I added yet another search to zero in on word topic searches that find topical or thematic lists of Bible verses related to that word topic.
Thank you Beloved and others who helped tag this resource better!
Still hoping this resource (MTB) gets tagged to appear in searches with the famous Logos Topic Guide! [:)]

Thanks, Greg! Your thread just became extremely useful with all the responses. I need to put this into practice! Logos is a massive full of tricks software! And I just learned something new 👍😁👌 I will save this for future reference.

As shown in your screenshot, you are searching for any word = "topical" (e.g. it could appear in the resource Description). If it is a tag on the resource information page, you need tag:topical. If it is your own tag, you need mytag:topical. You can type that or scroll down the menu list:-

That first entry "Bible Concordance" means it is a resource of that type. To search for those, you enter type:"bible concordance". Your search for "Concordance" will find any word in the resource data e.g. its Description.

Thank you very much Dave for these clarifications!
I updated my favorite search within topical resources to look for tag:topical, not just the word topical
I also added my own tags topical to some resources that are topical, that formerly did not have a tag of topical
This way my search eliminates about 3 resources that really are not topical, but have the word topical in the title or description
Thank you again! Great tip!
