FL should establish itself as a member institution of JSTOR and sell yearly subscriptions

Yeah...pretty much just that. I don't have other access, and if FL could find a way to add value to the downloaded content, then they might start receiving tons of business from folks currently outside the Logs/Verbum customer ecosystem. I'm sure that the FL customer base is larger than some of the smaller educational institutions that have memberships. If they jump on this, they could offer it with some of their L10 base packages. CHOP CHOP!!

The basic access portal for customers is the place to start, but once established, perhaps FL could build the relationship so that greater integration of the two platforms could develop and emerge.

I thought JSTOR was a non-profit for educational and research purposes. Does it permit for-profit companies outside of education and research to have membership? Would JSTOR allow FaithLife to undercut the JSTOR price for an individual researcher subscription?

Without researching it, I'm not sure about the non-profit aspect of JSTOR. I always thought they were more like the RIAA and ASCAP, sort of playing a market maker's role and collecting royalties for participating authors in some form. I know they ask a hella lot of money for even a single article, so the non-profit element seems dubious to me. But what is Logos if not an educational and research tool? Whatever the details are, there ought to be a way for the two parties to find an agreement. I'm not against FL making a small profit for their intermediary role, though it obviously should be spread out among its wide user base. I definitely don't think it should be expensive. If they rolled it into some of the upper tier base packages, say silver and higher, they should be able to spread the cost enough to take care of themselves and help out its customer base. Pretty much every institution that has a JSTOR account charges some sort of entry fee, whether it's in the form of tuition or something similar, a portion of which is no doubt assigned to the cost-to-play for JSTOR. It seems like the details should not be a barrier to entry, though a bit of negotiation may be needed. Tbh, though, they ought to able to sign up pretty easy, I would think. I just quickly scanned the Wikipedia article and I saw nothing about non-profit.

There are some free reads of articles - I've forgotten how many but a monthly membership to download articles in PDF form runs about $2 an article ($20 a month)

But what is Logos if not an educational and research tool?

Faithlife is a software company that produces software (for profit) to empower the church ...etc. It is not an educational institution. Companies that provide textbooks, software, and equipment for educational institutions are not generally considered to be educational institutions themselves. One could even see JSTOR and Faithlife as parallel efforts - one aimed at the academic market, the other aimed at the religious market.

As JSTOR tends to be PDF oriented and PDF's are no supported by Logos, I see this proposal as requiring two additional licenses for Logos - JSTOR for PDF's and Adobe for converting the PDF's. I would expect that to end up costing me more than an individual license to JSTOR with little increased functionality.

Well, in that case, Bob will just have to buy JSTOR and work out the infrastructure and all the rest of it so that the PDFs can be turned into Logos files so that the whole world can join the 21st century and FL can become the largest and most profitable publishing house on the planet. Piece of cake.

I LOVE the idea of PDFs converted into text that could be searchable in Logos! But my pea-sized brain can't figure how these 2 propositions can both happen. in order to be profitable, products have to me monetized. I guess the [yearly subscription] model may reconcile these ideas.
