How much space will Logos hold to ransom?

Right, am annoyed - very annoyed... on indexing (again)

Each version is worse and worse - My Logos 10 library index on Windows 10 is 7.9GB big, am blessed with a big library I use offline, I have 8.8GB of free space, yet the indexer crashes due to "running out of space" - get the 1gb free required message so lose 7hours of functional use every index, sorry but how much space do you need?

REQUEST:
Please either optimise the indexing to use less space, [again I beg and plead with you that your software should not be holding 8+ GB hostage] or failing that give me the option in program settings to force delete the existing index at start of the reindexing process, after all if it going to crash anyway and I have to delete folder, perhaps you can give me option to automate deleting it and save me some grief/annoyance?

It is best to assume that you need at least (Library index size + 1 GB) free, because your existing Index is retained whilst a temporary one is being built.

In terms of hard disk drive spare space and OS efficiency, you need at least 25% free i.e. 29 GB, albeit that about half of that would suffice for an SSD with builtin over-provisioning.

I guess I am alone in believing this is not an acceptable demand, and there has to be a better more efficient way of doing it. however I guess if you have a modern system with 2+TB of SSD it really is not an issue as you are rarely going to fill it.. but my laptop is SSD and is still very responsive, and usable for a 2013 machine, except the 128GB SSD size, which I cannot get a replacement for, its hard soldered apparently, and sadly immediate replacement is not in budget either...

I would still like an option of destroy existing index but doubt it will happen in the forseeable future..

I understand your issue. But I can see FL's approach with thousands of less than talented computer-ists (me). The norm is don't destroy the present, before you create a working future.

A choice for the inexperienced (not you)? I've not doubt my Mac will have similar issues soon enough ... it really likes videos from our car traveling.

If you build an algorithm that takes less space while maintaining the speed of the current sort, you might become a very rich man.

I would still like an option of destroy existing index but doubt it will happen in the forseeable future.

This keeps one from working while the index is being rebuild and keeps one from working if the index rebuild fails. Some may be willing to take that cost and risk but others will not. In the meantime, leaving resources in the cloud on my smaller (older) computer is my solution.

Logos 10 does not need a Bible Index! If it has not been removed then delete the BibleIndex folder in ... \Logos\Data (that should save at least 1 GB).

I feel your pain, but having only 8GB of space on a Windows drive is a problem and is slowing down your overall system most likely. Is the drive upgradable? If so, consider upgrading. If not, you may want to run some clean up procedures to clear up more space. If you can't do the above and get more space, then you might consider using the web app until you can.

You can also save space by

deleting specific resources in the Concordance folder
deleting the WebCache folder for downloaded videos and audio (usually from Courseware)

an SQlite database browser will show you the files that belong to specific Courseware resources.

Both of these folders can be easily greater than 1 GB, depending on your usage.

An alternative - now Logos support Cloud Resources - is to move the resources from your local drive to the Logos Cloud.

That way you save local disk space but the results still appear in searches and it is easier to access them if required.

I believe you can simply delete the relevant file (with Logos/Verbum closed), but don't take my word for it.

Dominic knows he can manually delete the Index you indicate but he was wanting an option in Logos (which is unlikely to eventuate).
