NOTES or Notebooks? That is the question.

I posted this under "SIUGGESTION" already. Support it please. 

I have complained for years about the confusion regarding the terminology. Notes or Notebooks. Those two terms are used interchangeably sometimes in ERROR. FIT IT. PLEASE!

I have had numerous responses affirming my point. 

I have a solution. 

When we make a NOTEBOOK, what we are really doing is creating our own THEME. Then we add NOTES to it. That is profound as we discover THEMES in Scripture!

And this makes sense to us not-so-literate computer users.

    Notebooks are full of notes, and notes are are stored in notebooks. I really don't see the confusion. THEMEs would be a completely unatural anaolgy to real world notes and notebooks.

    Maybe you might want to create a title for your Notebooks that are expressly according to what you consider a theme. Right now most of my Notebooks are for given books of the Bible or some unifying topic or study. The actual title you give a Notebook is all that's needed.

    I have not taken time to understand over the years.  I just make notes.  I dont put them in notebooks.  I guess I have one notebook?  I have never understood why you need more than one.  In physical Bibles, you write notes.  In logos, you write digital notes. Why does it have to be complicated by adding different notebooks?  I am sure this is all simple and obvious to the majority.  But I am also sure some are like me and just think that notetaking has been made complicated by adding notebooks.

    Now if notebooks are like personal books, then I could possibly understand.

    One of the reasons is that you can share notebooks. I may not want to share all of my random notes on every book in my library but if I were leading a Bible study on Galatians, I might want to share just those notes. To make that work, though, I need a separate notebook for Galatians. 

    I don't sort notebooks by theme but by purpose, so the suggested terminology would not be helpful for me. Just like I have composition notebooks with lots of notes on them, I have digital notebooks with notes. 

    Your THEME is Galatians. Thats easy peezy.  Or Galatians 1 to 4. THEME and PURPOSE are the same thing. Synonyms 

    Thanks Mark. I title my "NOTEBOOKS" like I would a paper 3-ring binder. Maybe that's the wrong thing to do. So I currently have over 100 "NOTEBOOKS" all titled by my personal tag. Then I add "NOTES" into that NOTEBOOK. So in my "NOTEBOOK" called "SOVERINGITY" I have added 464 passages as NOTES. 

    I got into computers because I thot they would follow the KISS system. But those 2 words are so close and often used wrong in the FORUM. 

    I think if "NOTEBOOKS" were called THEMES it would clear up the use of this system.

    Unfortunately, themes are NOT how I organize my notebooks; I use tags for themes. My Notebooks are organized by project just as my notebooks and files were when I was working. I think of notebooks as 3-ring binders ... which in my part of the world are often called notebooks. I think of notes as the sheets of paper in those binders. The terminology is natural for my part of the country but one thing I learned in college was that there is lots of variety in how terms are used depending upon where you are from. I'd never heard of an hourly ... or of a pony ... but I did know a crib sheet and a test.

    Exactly, and from the sounds of it, that is probably the ideal solution for you. I organize some of my notes around projects -- and each project has its own notebook. Notes not related to a specific project are not in a notebook.

    If I had notebooks, would it still be possible to export or print all my notes at once?  In other words, if I had a notebook for every book of the Bible, would I still be able to export or print out all my notes at once -- or would they need to be printed out one notebook at a time?

    I don't see a need for more than one notebook.  But if did, I would want to be sure that all notes could be saved (printed or made into a pdf) as one document. I fear not being able to export my notes one day if I no longer want them in the software.

    You could still print / export them all out in one go - you would do this from the Notes Tool without having selected a notebook.

    I have come close to deleting all my Notebooks, now that we can quickly use filters to gather groups of Notes.

    The sole remaining use for Notebooks is to share them as Documents on Faithlife, where others have found them useful.

    They are also the level at which display of notes and highlights can be toggled within resources

    In the resource visual filter menu you can enable Notes and Highlights and, within that, choose which notebooks are selected. This allows you to only show specific notes and highlights if you wish.
