Derek Cooper, Basics of Latin: A Grammar with Readings from the Christian Tradition Video Lectures

Logos sells Derek Cooper’s Basics of Latin: A Grammar from the Christian Tradition, published by Zondervan. However, Zondervan also sells video lectures by Dr. Cooper teaching his grammar. I would like to commend these lectures to Logos as a product they should make available to customers.

These video lectures are now available in Logos. I don’t have them yet, but I have the book and noticed the preview videos follow the text of the book extremely close. My question is, “Are the videos only a direct reading or presentation of the chapters?” I’m hopeful it’s more than him reading his book out loud. Anyone know? Thanks.

The ones I have watched as I proceed through the Christian Latin college course at the FsithSaves.net website seem to be very close to the book, although not identical. You can also find a book review of the grammar there

Thanks! Would you say it’s enough additional value to purchase? Having him pronounce the words would be helpful.

It probably has some value, but it depends upon you. If you are planning to learn Latin as a self-learner, I would suggest checking out:

Thanks.

Awesome! Thanks. I recently got familia romana in Logos. Combined with Basics and Duolingo it’s going well.

Yes, I am dabbling in learning Latin as a self learner. I would like to be able to read the Latin Vulgate, Latin church fathers, and classical literature in general. I have the basics of Latin book and Familia Romana. I’ve been messing around with Duolingo, and while it certainly has helped with pronunciation and building a foundation, I know it will only take me so far.
Since I’ll be a self learning without any professor… The videos probably do make sense to have a guide and help with pronunciation. I don’t see it is something I ever want to speak in conversation, but to be able to read old Latin literature and simply the benefits of growing in language acquisition is wonderful. I didn’t receive a classical education growing up and this seems like a good way to get some that for myself.
Who knows, I may decide to use Latin foundations to learn a Romance language.
