Need Help with Update Error

Hi,

After an automatic update I get the following error messages:

The thing is that the path is the right one, and contains the Logos4.msi file. What's wrong? Has anybody else come across this problem?

This is happening with the latest RC and running a Spanish version of Windows XP Pro SP3.

I haven't seen anything like this before. I wonder if you could attach some log files which were written when the Logos setup program ran. If you have logging enabled, you should find those files in your "My Documents\Logos Log Files" folder. If you don't have logging enabled (which is the default), the Setup log files are still written to your hard disc and should be found in your Temp folder, which you can get to by opening Windows Explorer and typing %temp% into the address bar. In the Temp folder should be a "Logos Log Files" folder. I'm interested in the DigitalLibraryInstall.log and the logos4setup.log files.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I do not have any log files. In Temp there is no such folder (Logos Log Files) and no such log files. Is there any other way we can go about it?

Indeed, you can enable logging by running the following script:

[View:http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LDLS4Installer/EnableLogging.js:550:0]

When you're finished with logging, you should turn it off, since logging slows down Logos 4, by running this script:

[View:http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/DisableLogging.js:550:0]

After enabling logging, try the update again, then look in your "My Documents" folder for the "Logos Log Files" folder.

Please check if this log file is any good. I tried to uninstall Logos 4 in order to do a clean install, but wasn't very successful. [:(]0003.Logos4.log

Ruben did you delete the %AppData/Logos 4 folder when you uninstalled? Sometimes it needs to be deleted manually for a re-install to work.

The log file you provided was written by Logos 4, so it appears that the installation succeeded since Logos 4 was running. By the log file it appears that Logos 4 was running properly for several minutes, determining which resources it would download from the Logos web server. How did Logos 4 stop working? Did it show a crash dialog, or just disappear, or did you shut it down because it didn't seem to be doing anything? Could it be that you just didn't let it run long enough to finish this one time process? It can take some time...

As for the installation, the installation-related log files are logos4setup.log and DigitalLibraryInstall.log. Since you're Logos 4 seems to be running, there's no need to post those log files here, since if there really is a problem, it's probably not an installation problem.

I killed the installation because I was getting the same error messages.

I have a backup from another box and would like to reinstall the program from scratch. Is there a way to remove Logos 4 100%?

The standard Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features) in Control Panel should allow you to remove Logos4 and Logos Prerequisites. That failing try
Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Then remove the Logos4 folder.

Thanks, Dave. I had to use Microsoft's tool and then reinstall.

Now, every single time I open the program, it crashes...

Ruben,

There are errors on each resource and it is not the gold version of 4.0c(9288 vs 9511) . The indexer log is not related. You need to do a full uninstall and then reinstall. If you have a full working version of 4.0c v9511 it can be used to speed things up using http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers

Try the uninstall via Control Panel first then MS's tool if necessary, but remove the logos4 folder at C:\Documents and Settings\User\Configuración local\Datos de programa\. Install via the wiki process above if possible else use its web link alone.

You might also check your hard drive for errors as a precaution.
