If I want to read a single resource from a layout on its own, is there a way to open that layout after and have that single layout populate to the last read point?
mm.
No ... the whole point of the Logos layout is to remember a point in time. Ergo snapshots in the layout menu. It'd be interesting to have a shortcut for layout AS last used.
The work-around is, instead of opening the layout, just open the resource (which remembers last read).
You would have to update the layout every single time before closing for the changes to stick. If it's just a single resource, drag and drop it to the shortcut bar to the left. It will 'update' automatically' to the last page you left it at.
Fair enough. The "work-around" works just dandy, but I thought I could do what I was referring to. I guess I'm so 'spoiled' with Logos and its functionality that I was looking for the lazy-man's way. How hard is it to just reopen the layout and begin reading where you left off in the single-opened resource? All in all, I love Logos and can't imagine going back to a desk full of displayed books all piled in symmetry one upon another.
thanks.
Hi Milkman:
I sometimes like to do what you expressed. I have added a button for 'Update active layout' to the Toolbar, and I just have to remember to click that one button. Type 'update active layout' in the Command Box and drag the suggestion below to the Toolbar. Forgive me if this is obvious, but one never knows who knows what.
Hey Robert! Well, I did not know that. However, that works one way, but does it work the other way? For example. If I have one book open that is in a saved layout - can I update that one and when I open my saved layout with several other resources including that one open-by-itself will it have been saved?
Ya, I know this is kind of muddled. Maybe this will help.

I further found this. Once I save my layout, close it and then open a single book from that layout, it opens to where I saved the layout and not where I updated that resource as a single opened book. It seems that a layout has precedence over other books that reside in the layout.
Also, the 'update active layout' can be dragged and dropped from "more shortcuts" down arrows near the top right of the page.

Have you played around with the Startup options in Settings? I normally startup blank, but I was seeing what would happen if I had a saved layout plus a book I was reading. It SEEMS to bring both up, the book as where last read. I think.
I'll give it a shot.
That is expected behaviour for a layout.
If you want to keep track of a single book then drag it to Favorites before you do anything that could affect it:
Well, I'm halfway to your point.
1. If I have my layout open, save it and then close it and open just one book from that layout that is on my Favourites it will open to the point/page where it was in my layout.
2. However, if I have just one book from my layout open, then save it, close it and then reopen my layout, that single book does not populate to the point that it was when it was opened by itself.
Or, am I missing something...

I have noticed hit and miss on this.... I use the settings to open to my last local layout and before I close the program run the sync.
Most of the time I can open right back to where I was, but there are times that it opens elsewhere.
So, can u do this? For example. One of the books in my layout is Covenant Theology: A Reformed Baptist Perspective.
After I update my active layout, which has said book and close that layout I then go to my library and open just the Cov. Theo resource and it will open exactly to the point where it was updated in the larger layout.
However, after I update and close just that single resource, and then proceed to open the larger layout, said book does not open to the last point when it was opened as a single book.
You, know it just might not be something that is doable...

After you have read in the single resource and before you close it drag the resource tab to the favorites, this will save the current place/status of that single resource in that favorites link.
When you then open your larger layout, the single resource opens in the last place when you saved/updated that layout. Now, with the layout open, you click in favorites on that link for that resource which will update the resource in the layout to the place you were at when you were reading in that resource and dragged the tab to the favorites tool.
Wolfgang, I'm smiling, but your solution demonstrates a really poor app design ... for an app that tries to sells book for reading. Actually, it probably demonstratees Logos design was meant for research (a grouping of texts for review).

I admit, I did not get Logos for reading the Bible or other works ... for me it has always been a software tool for bible study / research. To this day, I do not use Logos for daily Bible reading ... reading in Logos is almost exclusively connected to study, lecture preparation, writing studies on Biblical topics, etc.
My solution above is more a work around to achieve what I understood the original poster was looking for ...

You have missed the point of saving the book to Favorites before you do anything that could affect it e.g. before closing the layout that contains it. Whatever you do after that, use Favorites to open the book. Then save it again when you finished reading it. And then open it from Favorites when you want to resume reading, etc....
Also read Wolfgang's version of saving it to Favorites.
