A note about Notes --- FYI

something that I have done ever since I started Notes in Logos is I have as many tags about a Note as possible, as most people do. Many times I may want to study a book or chapter of a book in my Notes... so for example...

But let's say I create a Note for Acts 8:19. In the tags of that Note, I add "Act" tag, and "Act-08" tag. I have done this for every Note I have in the bible.

Now when I want to see all my Notes in Acts I search Docs for "mytag:Act" and all the Notes for Acts appear or if I want to see all the Notes for Acts chapter 8, I search Docs "mytag:Act-08" and Notes for that chapter appear.

I know most people probably do this, but I have a friend who was visiting and we got into Logos Notes and he did not know this. So I thought I would share. Geeked

Edit: In WordSearch Notes were linked to books of the bible. When I came to Logos (fingernails hanging onto WordSearch for a while) I had to learn how to set up my Notes so I could copy what I had in Wordsearch. The above example is as close as I found to do that. But it does work!

Thanks for the tip, xnman. I’ve been a Logos user for about 10 years and Notes have always been an enigma for me… to the extent I don’t even use them… other than recognizing that I’ve likely created thousands of them via highlights. Four or five years ago, I viewed some detailed training videos by MP Seminars but still failed to incorporate Notes into my Bible study routine. I keep telling myself, “one of these days” but at age 73, “one of these days” may not come about.

I’ve only recently begun to use notes more often than I previously have. I need to start using tags more, as I know their value, I just haven’t yet begun to utilize them.

Your example will work... but I put the dash and zero (Act-08) so that when I list my Notes say for Search "mytag:Act" then they all line up right. But there is "more than one way to skin a cat" as they say. [8-|]

I'm trying to be creative in my head. So. I've got a TON on NOTES in NOTEBOOKS but TOPICALLY titled. So I could TAG the NOTES with the TOPIC title and help myself in Searching for them. Am I getting it?

yes, that will work. I do the same thing. All my topics have the "topic" as a tag in the Note. I also do topics (i.e. Miracles, Angels, Faith, Elders, etc.) but my topics I normally label as a Notebook. For example, I have a Notebook for Miracles, one for Angels, one for Faith, one for Elders, etc. This keeps all my Notes for that topic in one place also. And as I said, all my Notes in Notebook for Angels have a tag "Angels".

I think these two tags are not needed because it is easy to search for all notes related to "Acts" and "Acts-08" using the facets in the Notes tool.

First, click on "Notes" under the "Type" facet.

Second, go to "Bible Book" and choose the book you want. I am just showing Genesis for example. You can pick Acts or whatever.

Third, Sort the Notes by "Reference". You can then go the verse you are interested.

Like xnman, I use Topics tags a lot. But I don't just put a Topic tag. I take it one step further. Since my brain is wired to think in a Question-Answer format, I almost always adopt a X-Y-Z format, where X is the topic/theme, Y is a keyword to a question related to the topic, Z is the answer

A couple of examples of my tags to give an idea for what X, Y, and Z could be.

When I came from WordSearch I didn't know Logos Notes very well... and so I set my notes up with what I understood then to work. Since then, I have just stayed with that way as I am used to it. As I learned Notes better, I asked myself, what does it hurt? It doesn't so I kept it.

I understand there are more ways to "skin the cat" but I am used to my way... I think it shows the flexibility of Logos.

But thanks for bringing it up.
