Page Numbering in iPhone/iPad App

Just got my iPad today so I can read my Logos library on the go.
I have found this to be a good experience except for two issues.
1. Lack of highlighting and notes. This has been addressed numerous times and promised as future features so I won't belabor this point.
2. Lack of page numbers in non biblical resources. I have not found this issue addressed elsewhere in the forums so I thought it worth a post to emphasize how much those who research for writing need page numbers. Not having page numbers in the iPad app greatly reduces its usefulness as a serious tool for scholars, teachers, and students.
Are there any plans to implement a way to view a citable page number in a future upgrade?
Also, I noticed in this first forum post from my iPad that this forum editor is not fully compatible with the iPad browser.

The one argument I will offer Russ, is that due to the ability to change font sizes, page numbers would be rather arbitrary.

With a large vs small font, perhaps page 15 could end up being 25.

In Kindle, there is a small bar at the bottom, which shows percent completed. I would suggest that Logos put one of those in, so regardless of font size, I know for example, that I am 38% through Charles Ryrie.

Something to help the reader to have a better sense of reading position in relation to the book as a whole would be nice. But my concern is more about citation than navigation. I would like something like the visual filter enabled that shows the page numbers corresponding to the print version of the books.

In books that have page numbers, if you happen to be open to a screen where there is a page break (which you can't see so it is very hit and miss, especially if you are using a large font so the page breaks are further between) and you stroke up it will show the page number.

Suggestions:

1. It would be very nice if whenever you scroll up it would show the page number. Even if you aren't at the beginning of the page you are still on that page and it would be nice to see the page number.

2. It would be nice to have the ability to jump straight to a page number. This would make it easier to get to specific areas in the book. As it is now, I spend a lot of time "quickly" flipping one page at a time to get where I want to be.

I agree with the above. many of us are using Logos resources in a research context were the usefulness of the resource is greatly diminushed if there is no ability to identify page numbers (I often have to go backto the desktop version in order to grab the page number which somewhat defeats the purpose of trying to do research on the go).

Page numbers should follow the print edition and be independent of the font size of type that is used (I got a bad experience with a Zondervan resource in an E-reader where the page numbers did not match what is found in the print edition, thankfully, I double checked and now I have the keep the print copy nearby).

I think, what I would wish for the most, is just to have a good Table of Contents (live, of course), from which I can easily navigate.

Even though digital books are a very different animal because of their composition, I could concede the impracticality of page numbers. In the digital app, you don't really have a page! For a fixed/finite size of page, it makes it possible in a normal paper book.

With a "floating" page size, of course that becomes impractical. Even within books now, I have seen the top of the page be at a different spot, within a small window. For example, perhaps a book I am reading has 20 chapters and I happen to be on chapter 14. I have proceeded to the fifth "page" in, from the chapter 14 header. The beginning words, may be "In the beginning...."

Then if I go to the back of the book, look around a little and then go back to my previous location, that phrase "In the beginning..." may be at the bottom of the page, previous to where it was last located.

Anyway, if the Table of Contents (and a good Index at the back) were used, I could pretty well jump around. With bookmarks, it helps even more.

I think that what most of us would like isn't a "page" number that is in relation to the screen size, but rather the page number as given in the Logos resource (usually corresponding to the print edition). So even though I am scrolling for 5 pages on my iPod it could all be the same page number.

The page number wouldn't have any relation to page size.

Another advantage of this would involve when in class, study, etc. and everyone is supposed to "Turn to page ###." or someone says "I have a question about the chart on page ###." With the current set up there is no good way to flip to that page. Even if the resource has page numbers, there is no way to quickly go there. It would be great to be able to type in a page number and be at the top of the page (as corresponding to the print resource), then you could scroll for a few screens to find the location within that page.

In our future, perhaps professors will have to say, "Turn to the relative position of the paragraph, with the heading, ....."

Some books have page milestones and in those books you can navigate by page. In the reference box type "p52" to go to page 52.

That makes it even more useful to have the page number show every time you swipe up, instead of only when you are on the screen that has the page break (assuming the resource has page numbers).

yeah my vote goes for finding out the page your on in the book (regardless of font size).

The main reason is when using the reading plan with the ipad i'd like to know when i've read the designated pages for the day

Is the "reference box" in the iPhone/iPad application the box that appears to the left of the [Contents] and [Favorites] buttons when you tap on the middle of the screen in reading mode? (The one which lists which section of the table of contents you are presently in?) Or is it found somewhere else?

When I have a resource which supports page milestones (e.g., Robertson's "A Grammar of the Green New Testament in the Light of Historical Research") typing page numbers (e.g., 'p52') in that box followed by "Go" doesn't seem to do anything -- although doing the same thing in the reference box in the Windows version of the application works just fine to move me to page 52.

Perhaps I'm not familiar with how to get to the "reference box" in the iPhone application and am not typing into the correct place?

you can find page numbers , swipe up on the ipAd screen adn the box that appears will give you a page umber, at least in some books

I too would like visible page numbers at the bottom of the screen and even more would like cut and past and nots ability on the iPAD
