Is there a way to turn off AI features in Logos?

This may seem a bit oddball but please here me out. I subscribed to Logos Max and so far it seems ok. I have a personal issue with AI, I can explain it later or on my FB profile and don't want to use it. Is there a way to turn the AI features off in Logos? It is something I believe should be opt-in but I want to opt-out without losing the other features that will come with the subscription.

No, AI has been used in Logos for years in the form of natural language processing for parsing etc. If you are referring solely to the large language models that are the current fad, you cannot turn them off but at the moment you can avoid using them. I would not count on that in the long run. I don't think there is any way to turn off the AI features. Most of these features are additions that you can choose not to interact with. The only one I have come across that may be different is using 'All' search for a single word. If you enter a standard search string in the 'All' search it will recognise it as a precise search and not use AI. For a single word and a natural sentence it will default to AI.

All AI can be turned off by simply disconnecting your internet connection. [8-|]

Thanks John, I was told that somewhere else after I posted and couldn't believe how stupid I was for not even thinking about it. It would be nice to have a switch in Logos though so I could use the internet for other things, like updating, while I am working.

But remember that you need to internet to sync between devices, to recovery lost data, to rebuild your installation ... it works but it is a cutting off your nose to spite you face style of a solution.

All AI can be turned off by simply disconnecting your internet connection.

Or go to the Logos settings, and disable internet settings there.

Yes, nose-cutting does have its downside. But having a stubborn streak, and a desire for not accepting Faithlife's my-way-or-the-highway, I stopped updating the app a while back. No little twinkle-stars for me. Web-AI is fine.

A similar issue occurred back in 2009 ... 'we want your notes! Give us your notes!' (I think Logos Ltd?). And so, no notes in Logos. Highlights from bizaare-land, fine.

This concern highlights one of the reasons that I continue to bring up the suggestion to offer a Fallback License eligible option, so those who are concerned about the AI use could still have an option to subscribe/purchase the non-AI features.

Since users will be able to have the Fallback license added to their accounts when earned - I would think that the Licensing limitations that Mark mentioned in another thread wouldn't apply to this suggestion.

You may also find older versions don't work on new versions of MacOS or Windows OS, and they won't be supported. They could have bugs, no longer run, or run very slow. And, you will have no way of knowing what the problems might be, as it would no longer be supported.

To really do this right you would need to have the old versions of MacOS or Windows, and run a VM to run the apps in.

Yep. I still have Libronix 3.0g and Bibleworks 9 running on my Windows 7 machine. My iMac has an intel i7 processor. It still gets macOS updates. But at some point it will cease to get them. My plan is to continue using it regardless. It has been upgraded to 64GB of RAM and can run Windows 7 and Windows 11 virtual machines simultaneously. Eventually I will have to disconnect it entirely from the internet.

I also have a small private library of printed resources for Biblical study, just in case everything suffers a complete meltdown.

I will probably subscribe to Logos and just stay current on one of my macBook computers. But I honestly do not see myself ever being dependent upon AI features for Bible study.

I have yet to see any hint of how AI will improve the study of original languages in the Max subscription. And I have trouble imagining how AI is going to allow anyone to study Greek without learning by using the traditional methods.

There was a post on one of the Logos Facebook n groups recently that went through the latest update and listed them. I can't find it at the moment but will keep looking and post a link if/when I find it.
