Factbook Suggestion: Add Key Article for Arius

The Factbook entry for Arius doesn't have a key article. However, I have several dictionaries in my library with articles on Arius. Shouldn't one of them be the key article?

Also, The Essential Lexham Dictionary of Church History doesn't have an article on Arius, which seems like a major oversight. Perhaps one can be added to that resource and then that can become the key article for the Factbook entry.

The Essential LDCH will have an article on Arius. The version of the dictionary that was released in L10 at launch is incomplete with roughly 40% of the content we have planned. When the Arius article is added, it should show up as a Key Article in Factbook. Editorial on the dictionary articles is taking longer than anticipated, so we shipped what was done and we're still working on the rest. Look for updates on 2023 to add the remaining entries.

Thanks Doug. Shouldn't there be a backup article for folks who don't own the Essential LDCH? It's not included in every base package, only silver and up for Logos, and it's in none of the Verbum packages. Usually, the key article is drawn from another dictionary when the Lexham Bible Dictionary doesn't have an article. Many of my alternate key articles come from the New Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible in Logos, or the Catholic Encyclopedia in Verbum.

I'm not sure entirely how the Key Articles get selected, so I can't say why there's no backup. I also get no Key Article when I look up "Arius" in Factbook despite having 8 dictionaries show up a bit further down in the Dictionaries section. It's possible that the Key Articles part works off a limited pre-set list of resources, but I don't know how that's determined.

I never knew the details but there is a process of "aligning" a dictionary resource to the Factbook fields that is, at least partially, a manual process.

I can. The Catholic Encyclopedia article on Arius (https://ref.ly/logosres/cathency?hw=Arius) was incorrectly coded by Faithlife as having to do Arius, King of Sparta. Oops! (I have no idea why that Arius was also coded as being Presbyterian.)

This is true. Faithlife determines it. The Catholic Encyclopedia is one of the resources from which Key Articles can be derived. Verbum prefers it as the source of Key Articles even over Lexham products (Logos does not).

Both Ariuses are listed as Presbyterians in the Factbook. King Arius of Sparta is also listed as a Religious Movement Founder like Arian Arius. (In Logos the Factbook uses the LBD for King Arius so that key article matches the subject in Logos. Arian Arius has no key article.)

It seems to impact the German factbook version for some reason. RGG4 has an article on Arius/Arianism, and key articles are pulled from that resource by default. However, for Arius no key article is displayed.

Or is there going to be a German edition of LDCH too?

For Arius in particular, I learned the problem is the incorrect alignment with data tagging mentioned above. That error has been reported and should get corrected. So no one's getting key articles for Arius because the tagging the Key Article section uses is where the misalignment is (with the tags pointing to Arius, king of Sparta).

Essential LDCH is getting translated into several languages, but I don't think German was one they were working on yet. But a different team works on translating Lexham content, and I don't know their plans. I hope it will eventually be in all the languages Logos is localized for.

Both Ariuses are listed as Presbyterians in the Factbook.

Perhaps whoever tagged them didn't realize that "presbyter" and "Presbyterian" are rather different things.

Here we are in October of 2024, and the Essential LDCH still doesn't have an article on Arius. It was last updated May of 2023. Will there be more updates coming soon? Especially with the full launch of the new Logos subscriptions?
