Open entire layout in new window

Hello,

I was wondering if there is a way to have 2 sessions (open twice) of logos going on the same computer or if you can open an entire layout in a floating window.

An example of this would be if you had 2 monitors and wanted one monitor to have, say Romans 7 on it, with all the commentaries ect open. Then on the other screen you have Galatians 5 opened with all the commentaries ect. That way you could easily compare all the resources you have on those to passages. Or if you have one screen, you can simply just have one minimized and flip back and forth easily.

Josh - I don't think it is possible (or desirable) to have "2 sessions" open at the same time (I would think there would be sync issues!). You can, however, create floating windows/panels and move them to a second monitor. These panels can have tabs. To do this, click the resource's book cover (upper left hand corner of the panel) and click "Float the panel." Then you can drag the panel to the second monitor.

In addition to Alabama24's advice, see http://community.logos.com/forums/p/29255/216634.aspx#216634 for having a grouping of resouces that you can open in an independent window. It's not perfect, but does work pretty good (have to manually connect them though).

I have to leave my computer and my study now for a while; however, Steve Clark (I believe!?) had several posts on floating windows that could be accessed from Favourites. I set up one, then, just to see if it could be done.

Success! However, I have not developed my work in this area. Your post inspires me to get back to the drawing board; and I am grateful to you!

Hi Josh,

Here is how you can do this
(if the pictures are too small, just click on a picture to zoom into it)

1. In one of your panes on the main window, Right-click on a tab, then in the pop-up menu click on Open all in a floating window. (This will temporarily remove it from your main window, but in step 2 we will replace it with a copy of this pane)

[step 1 creates a floating window which contains all the tabs in a pane in it]

2. In the floating window hold the Shift & Ctrl keys down and with your mouse click and drag a tab

a. Drag the pane back to the main window where you originally had your pane and drop it there.

[step 2 copies all the tabs in a pane to another pane in your main window]

3. Now in your main window locate another pane which you want to copy to your floating window, then hold the Shift & Ctrl keys down and with your mouse click and drag the tab of that pane.

a. Drag it to your floating window and drop it in the location that you had it in the main window. (this makes a copy of that pane in your floating window)

[step 3 copies all your tabs in a pane to another pane in your floating window]

4. Now in your main window on your pane which has your Bible, hold the Shift & Ctrl keys down and with your mouse click on the tab and drag it.

a. Drag it to your floating window to a location where it was in your main window and drop it there. (This copies that pane to your floating window.)

[step 4 copies your pane to the floating window]

5. Now you have a complete copy of your main window in a Floating window. You can now move the floating window into your second monitor and change the Bible locations as you desire. You may want to use different Link letters for your floating window.

If this is a common layout that you will use in the future, i suggest that you save it as a Layout so that you will not have to create it every time.

PS: i find it very helpful to make both windows a custom size when doing this (i.e. not maximized). After you have them built you can maximize them then.

Thanks Denise for pointing Josh to my old post! It was my first thought, but i decided since he might not know the basics of moving panes/tabs that i would show him how to do it (in my above post). But by you giving him the floating window post he has the best of both methods.

Ah man! That works perfect! I haven't been able to use the sermon builder because of my screen setup. I have one landscape and one portrait. Landscape for resources and portrait for typing. And I couldn't use the builder because of this. And now! voila! I can use it. Thanks, a mil for the advice. Such a simple thing, so big a difference.
