Could I please get some good recommendations on commentaries on the Psalms? I am not looking for anything technical or difficult to read, but something that may explain what caused the author to write it and explain its purpose. Thank you.
I'm a big fan of John Goldingay: https://www.logos.com/product/52269/psalms-for-everyone-part-1-psalms-1-72?queryId=6169f2feda3070366b274abe51ca17af Also note that there's a companion volume for Psalms 73-150 (Sorry; I can't figure out how to make this link active)
I am a fan of the more recent NICOT volume on the Psalms. Technical issues are at a minimum.

@Mark Allison Entering a space after the link will make it active. This (not so cute) quirk followed us from the previous forum platform.
The older Tyndale volumes by Derek Kidner are pretty good for the size and not technical at all. I used them for a class on the Psalms.
