V40 Is a disaster!

  1. It repeatedly freezes.
  2. Can't add more than 4 books to a collection by dragging and dropping.
  3. Beginning a collection with the rule type:bible yields only a handful of the many versions in my library.

Everything worked properly until the version 40 update. Logos - what have you done?

Whatever is happening is unique to your system - perhaps indices.

Mine has not froze, the collection rule type:bible yields over a thousand entries …

Do you know how to take and upload logs?

Are you Mac or Windows? I am on Mac OS 15.3.1

I am struggling with v. 40. When I do a smart search, there is a big pause and my computer in general becomes very laggy, so much so that I have to reboot my computer to clear it up. My computer works fine until I load up Logos again. A reboot clears it all back up.

I'll need to chase this down in the next couple of days, but v.40 did not land perfectly here as well. It has been a long time since I had to drill into Logos to see why it is not playing nicely.

My installation freezes as well when it tries to automatically switch to the next video in Logos Mobile Education.

(And the feature as such is really annoying whenever I watch the Daily Dose videos - in other words: every day. There should be a way to deactivate it.)

I am on Mac, latest OS have to see what version, but I am often getting the spinning cursor that lasts up to a minute at times and then moves forward doing various things such as opening a layout, or doing a search.

M.J., It isn't unique to my system. It happens on both my laptop and on my brand new desktop that has only had v40 on it. I also fired-up my old desktop, which has reliably run versions up to v40. When It updated to v40 it began doing the same things.

If I try to create a collection by dragging books it will not permit the addition of more than four books. After 4, dragging another book will simply open the book.

Despite claims, I can still find information more quickly and reliably in Google than in the Logos' Ai implementation. Then, I can use that info to home-in on what I am looking for in Logos. I'm starting to wonder if paying for MAX is worth the cost.

BTW, I have been a champion of Logos since the very first version which was handed to me just as I left the Ark. While every piece of software has bugs, this version seems to be especially infested. I do hope that Logos has not adopted the Microsoft Paradigm of rushing code out the door and allowing users to be unwitting beta testers instead of using real, compensated beta testers. I was a compensated tester for the first three versions of Windows. The genesis of birth-defect plagued new versions, now accepted as normal, began after they adopted their new paradigm.

I notice that the first time I launch a smart search on the Bible, I get a spinning beach ball for about 10 seconds, then it generates the results. The second time I run smart search on the Bible, I don't get a spinning beach ball.

Smart search on my books works as before.

I'm trying to find patterns of behaviour that make sense. I have wondered as well, on a completely unrelated performance issue, if there is an issue when my macbook is in my docking station and I am using my external monitor. This could be nonsense, but I have run some tests in and out.

What I meant was that it is not happening across all configurations - only specific configurations. I knew this because my configuration could not replicate the problem.

This is not surprising to me as the type of question you ask and how you ask it is a major factor in what works best.

Mine hung up today, too, while it was "showing it off" to my sister-in-law who had never seen it before. Embarassing. I hope you can work out the bugs. I'm running the latest version on a MacBook Air M2.

v40 is not good. Logos runs slower on v40. The dreaded spinning ball appears a lot and Logos freezes. Both of the Macs I'm using are new, super fast (M4 on desktop and M1 Pro on laptop). I will be glad when this bug is fixed.

I have identified the sluggishness of my computer as being due to another update that happened around the same time, specifically Microsoft PowerPoint. I won't go into the details of this right now, as it is out of scope on this forum.

However, the spinning beach ball is a problem on the first time I use SmartSearch on the Bible after opening Logos. The good news is that after the first search, it no longer appears. While it is not particularly fast to respond, the beach ball disappears afterward.

I have a Mac and I noticed it taking a longer time. Even slowing my computer when logos is open. I’m thinking problem for me appears to be with the synching. It is getting frozen somewhere in the process of synching to the cloud. I cannot close logos without a force quit because it will not synchronize. But whenever it gets to this problem (I’ll hopefully get time to get the logs) this is when it slows down dramatically. Not sure what causes it, but it happens when logos has been open for more than a couple of hours.

I've had some of these problems as well. I'm on a Mac M2.

It is inconsistent, so I cannot say it happens only at certain times but I get the dreaded spinning ball from time-to-time. I notice in search the most. It resolves on its own without a restart or force close, except for once.

It's definitely and only Logos and has been an issue since before Christmas. Back in November or so on my M1 MacBook Air - which had run it fast and flawlessly for a few years - the beachball suddenly appeared. Then, with the newer version a long load time for the program itself appeared.

I thought it was time to upgrade my computer (only 8GB of RAM too). I went for an Asus laptop with the cerulamium finish. Good laptop, but identical performance from the Windows version of Logos. So I returned that and got an M4 MacBook Pro - same issue!

Load times have improved slightly recently, but as others have said, delay has appeared - that beachball on an M4!

This is ridiculous, I thought they had fixed this sort of stuff several Logos versions ago.

Now we are back where we were a few years ago. Two steps sideways and one step back.

I have not had similar problems despite a library > 50,000. However, I still leave my Bible visual filters pointing to a translation I rarely use and limited to a single short book. When I actually go to use them, I have to change the Bible and range. I got in this habit years ago when filters and collections were the primary causes of slow loading. I don't know if this is still true of visual filters but you might want to looks at your resource intensive filters

My Mac M1 is still on v36 and has huge VFs primarily on my apparti (the CNTTS being the hog) and monographs. But no issues; really surprising the performance. The only bouncing ball at v36 is the first load on the right-click after a start. But I don't use collections.

For the first time in many versions, I see the occasional beach ball. The most consistent is when I run Bible Smart Search for the first time.

After that, Logos seems to settle, but Smart Search seems to be slow to respond at times, but no consistent beach balls.

It is clear something is different. I trust the team will be investigating.

I hope they're looking into it. v.40 has been a disappointment.

The only problem I have had is with the Thompson Chain Reference Bible Topical Index. When I first open that from the library I get the spinning beach ball for about 10 to 15 seconds, or if I have it as one of my tabs in a work space and go away from it for awhile. When I go back to it I again get the spinning beach ball. I'm running an iMac with the M3 chip and 16 megs of ram. I'm running the latest Mac operating system 15.3.1.

You mean, "V40 has a couple new bugs."

I'm having a bad slow down when I have more than two bibles open. Or maybe passage lists, or both.
This could be the same issue as your freezing.

For some reason now when I load one of my named layouts I get the spinning beachball for about 10-20 seconds before it loads. That happens for just one of my layouts. All others load immediately. Very strange.

Just a hunch @Randall Cue , the layout may be corrupted. Once it finally loads, can you save it in a fresh layout, then try to load that one? If it loads fine then the first one is corrupted, delete it.

Many of the issues reported here mentioning syncing and slowness can probably be explained by the issue discussed here.

I just tried launching a book from the home page. I counted how long it would take. 22 seconds!!! Mac Airbook M2 latest updates to OS. 😫

I would uninstall it and go back to v.39 if I could!!!
