I'm presently a PhD student in Biblical Exposition but my studies involve a lot of biblical studies issues. I see that Logos has thousands of journal volumes available, but I can't afford to purchase much of any of them. I have the Galaxie Journal bundle on rental ($50/year), which is great. Some of the journals I use are in that package. But other journals I need aren't.

What is the possibility of offering other journals/collections for rental as well? I can find a way, for example, to pay $200-300 a year if I can get a huge number of journal articles, and the value of reduced search times and increased capability within Logos would be a BIG win for students (and scholars!) like me. It could even be packaged in with the Academic Logos subscription going forward...thoughts?

You've expressed a concern others have voiced, but I can imagine that the tagging effort for a constant stream of top tier journals would be costly.

Before you give up, though, I would suggest jstor.org, which is awesome. If integrated with a solid study regimen in Logos, you could get very close to what you're striving for with journals in Logos.

Logos has many more journals (compared to the Galaxie’s Theological Journal Library), offered in the Master Journal Bundle (currently version 9.3; the newer version 10.1 will be released in April 2025). The number of volumes in the Master Journal Bundle is 2,600+, compared to 1,025+ in the Galaxie’s Library. So, it would be good if the Master Journal Bundle (the journals which already exist in Logos) will also be offered as a subscription, similarly to the Galaxie's subscription.

If you own the 9.3 bundle, how much do you have to pay to get the 10.1 bundle?

If you own 9.3 and want to buy 10.1, they will show you a dynamic price when you look up the bundle. Just make sure you’re signed into Logos on the website.

My open pre-pubs lists shows a price of $27.13. I don't know if that discounts for my recent purchase of the Galaxy Bundle. If it is not included yet, it will be before the final purchase.

Thank you for the detailed reply. The reason I'm asking is because I want to know which route is cheaper for me. Is it by buying 9.3 first, and then 10.1, or buying straight the 10.1? I know it's probably just few bucks, but hey, if I could save $$ just by few clicks, I don't mind at all.

Normally buying all at once is cheaper than piecemeal. That said, sometimes the smaller collection is on sale for enough to change the math. For something like this, I would pay for the new bundle if I had the money (or if someone’s wants to give it to me? Wink wink!).

I picked up the Master Journal Collection on a sale a couple of years ago. I think it was about 40% off or something close to that. Because I had been picking up some titles over the years (i.e. in Galaxie, Library Collections, etc) the dynamic price helped bring the price down further. Now I just buy any updates and they are very affordable.

For my research, journals are a big part of the foundation of my library. I prefer referring to them over monographs, unless I want to really dig down into a topic. I would be very happy for Logos to add more titles if possible, and see some return that we have lost over the years.

OK, maybe I have a condition called journalitus! 😜
