difficulties searching for biblical words

I feel like I have a love-hate relationship with Logos. For example, I greatly appreciate how clean the formatting is regarding user data. While I wish notes could be in parallel and for the default sort to be by reference, I nonetheless love the little icons which I can hover over and see my note, and I love how clean and organized the sermon builder is. I love how the headings are done, etc, etc, and best of all how easily I can export my work! As someone who does research, this is huge for such an easy export function. I also love how extrabiblical info is handled regarding quotes and passage lists, etc. So there is a lot I truly love, and the more I work with Logos, the more I like it.

That said, I am still REALLY struggling with the actual Biblical text. I find it pretty frustrating that the cross-highlighting is not available in the "search" pane except for the actual searched word, but then the Inline search is also sort of a commotion. It has cross highlighting, but it highlights prior searches, and further, I don't seem to be able to see verses outside of the search.

In this specific example I am searching for קֹול but I want to see the context, and specifically, I need to see 1Sam 15:18. It appears, however, that the only way to see 1Sam 15:18 is to delete my search, is this correct?

In case it helps, I can attach an Accordance screenshot clarifying my goal.

In other books, you will have options to change the visible context around the search results (this shows up on the right side of the search bar to the left of the "send to" and "graph" buttons), but the one you are using doesn't support any context other than "Verse".

So, your only option here is to open the Search panel and do your Morph search on your book there, but view the results in the BHS panel. If you open the Locator bar (from the panel menu) you can change the drop down there to "Search Result" and use the up/down arrow buttons there to navigate between results.

    Hi @Andrew Batishko,

Thank you for your response, and I am grateful to hear there is a way to do this. However, I don't see the locator bar where I can change the search result. I first thought you meant "send search results here" but that didn't do anything, so then I started to look for something by the locator bar, but all I can find doesn't look related.

I am attaching a screenshot of where I am at, but the only dropdown thing I can find doesn't seem to be what you mean. Are you able to post a screenshot of what I am supposed to be clicking on?

    Thank you for your help.

You need to open the panel menu (the three dots button in the upper right corner of the panel) and find the option for the locator bar and toggle that on. It will add a new area below the search pane.

    Hi @Andrew Batishko,

I am still having difficulty. I ran a search of διδάσκω, and it worked fine. I then did another search of φυλακή using the same method, but when I click the next arrow to get to the next search hit, instead of showing the active search, it is still stuck on the old search.

Could you clarify how I can fix this?

The "active search" includes all search panels (whether or not it is the one in front or behind others) that is showing results. You would need to either close your old search panel or clear the search string in order to clear the results.

    Hi @Andrew Batishko,

Thank you for clarifying. As a preface, I do research, and in Accordance I would typically have multiple search tabs open at once comparing results. While I understand that I can have multiple search windows open at once in Logos, my specific type of work and research can only be done reviewing multiple search results within the biblical text which has context.

If I am understanding correctly, there is no way to do this in Logos. So even if I open a new NA28 tab, there is no way to link the first results to the first NA28 tab, and the second search to the second NA28 tab, and the third, etc, etc. Is this correct?

Correct. All copies of the NA28 tab will show the results from all open Search panels with search results.

Inline search allows you to focus on that, but obviously has the limitations you were encountering. (Although the NA28 will allow you to display your inline search results with either Verse or Paragraph context, so you won't have the same problem there as you encountered with the BHS.)

Sorry, that's a little misleading. Inline search will filter the text according to the inline search results, but will still show highlighting for any open Search panels with results in that book.

    Hi @Andrew Batishko,

Thank you for the screenshot about the NA28, that is helpful to know.

Regarding only being able to search one word at a time, thank you for clarifying that. With all respect, I don't understand how that is practical for researchers who do most of their work with the original languages though. I think it was maybe the first week I had Logos I came to that conclusion, but the more I work with it, the more I truly like Logos. I have never had a better experience working with the Church Fathers, for example, and I think how Logos has set it up to work with extrabiblical texts overall is very well thought-out and efficient. I also think I will be able to make a really clean layout for classes because of the little pop-up icons for notes, which I think will work well.

Regarding my research in the biblical texts, however, it is pretty challenging to say the least. I appreciate your clarification though, and while most of my work with the original languages can't be transferred here (for the reasons such as those on this thread), I am very grateful to be able to search for one thing at a time within the text itself, as opposed to not being able to do it at all.

Thank you again for the screenshot and for your help.

Note that in cases where Inline Search meets your needs, you can also open a copy of the panel and run separate inline searches there.

Note also that different resources support different context ranges on Inline Search. For example, the LHB (unlike BHS) will let you switch between Paragraph and Verse context on Inline Search.

    Hi @Andrew Batishko,

Thank you for clarifying this. I am currently in the middle of something complicated so I can't close my layout, but as soon as I can, I will try messing with the inline search in different versions and different tabs and see how it works. Thank you again.
