Logos for mobile limited: index broken, cannot access new resources purchased on iPad

Current issues experiencing on my iPad:
- On my iPad, the app begins to crash once my library reaches a certain number of downloaded resources.
- Previously, I could work around this by downloading 2–3 resources at a time, restarting after each crash.
- However, it appears that once a certain threshold is reached, the app can no longer manage the downloads reliably.
- More recently, the number of downloaded resources shown on my iPad has stopped updating.
- While I’m still technically able to download resources, they don’t show up in the search results.
- I suspect this may be due to the indexing system no longer functioning correctly after reaching a certain limit.
- The only way to access newly downloaded resources is through the store tab’s search—requiring an internet connection.
- The "Rebuild Index" command has had no effect.
- It seems the index may be frozen or broken once the threshold is passed.
- The recently introduced “Cancel Pending Resources” feature also didn’t help.
- As mentioned, I had reported this issue prior to that feature’s release, and it doesn’t address the root problem.
To reiterate, I’m using a high-spec iPad Pro M1 with 2TB storage. I invested in this device specifically to run Logos on the go—especially in areas with limited or no internet. Currently, however, the app is unreliable and nearly unusable in those situations.
Other apps with far more resources and heavier graphical content work without any issue, so this seems specific to Logos.
I raised this concern months ago and have offered to discuss it further by phone, but I’ve yet to receive a response.
If there is a known technical limitation, I believe users should be made aware that after expanding their library beyond a certain size, mobile functionality may become unreliable.
While I value the new features Logos continues to release, core functionality must remain stable. Unfortunately, the ongoing issues have made the experience frustrating, and my confidence in the platform has diminished.

How much free space do you have to build the indexes? That is often the cause of this sort of problem.

Remove and reinstall the app and stop downloading too many resources. The app is not really designed to download too many resources.

I have 2TB of disk space on my iPad, with 1.7TB currently available.
Hi DAL, I completely disagree with your statement. As I mentioned in my previous communication, I have other apps on my iPad that currently have more than 35,000 resources downloaded, many of which include rich graphical content. Searching for these resources is lightning-fast and works without issue.
The problem lies with the Logos mobile app itself—it may be using outdated technology. It seems the developers could benefit from training in modern techniques for database access and indexing. With the technology available today, the current performance is simply unacceptable and reflects poorly on the Logos software.
If Faithlife has limitations with their software, these should be clearly communicated to users upfront. I feel I’ve made an unnecessary investment and might have chosen a different platform had I known this in advance.

Please define “too many resources”

I’m having similar issues.
- I downloaded the latest free resource “We Want You Here” by Thom Rainer. I cannot search for this resource using “title:want” or anything similar or “author:Rainer”.
- I just added a few Print Library titles, too. Searches for them yield nothing but I can see they are listed in the LIbrary if I look hard enough.
I am hoping someone doesn’t tell me to reinstall the iPad Logos app again. That’s a pain in the neck to download resources again…. I have about 7900 total but download about 1/3 of them. My iPad Pro has over 600GB of empty space so that shouldn’t be an issue either.

I removed and reinstalled the iOS app to my ipad and it is working better but not perfectly…. After a tedious evening I was able to load my downloadable library. I still experienced crashing but plowed through it. This has been an issue for me for the past year. I’ve been in touch with tech support in the past but they did not resolve the issue beyond telling me to reinstall. It surprises me that some people with far larger libraries have no issues. No issues at all with the desktop edition, FWIW.

Logos has introduced more bugs with their latest release version 42.0.0. The app on my iPad is crashing after each download. It also crashes for no reason when reading resources without any downloads. It seems that logos is going backwards on mobile instead of forward. Very disappointing.

Dear Logos Team,
After watching the recent "What’s New with Logos" video, I was disappointed to hear that there are no plans to address the longstanding issue with downloading large libraries on mobile devices. As a long-time user and supporter of Logos, I feel compelled to share my experience and concerns.
Despite the repeated emphasis on the 100-resource download limit, this restriction does not resolve the core issue—many users, including myself, still face significant problems when attempting to use Logos on mobile platforms, particularly on iPads. It is disheartening that while many modern apps can handle extensive graphical and textual libraries without difficulty, Logos continues to struggle in this area.
Unfortunately, I have had to remove Logos from my iPad due to persistent issues, including app corruption after downloading resources. This has led to scenarios where I no longer had access to the remaining content, rendering the app unreliable. Logos' frequent recommendation to delete and reinstall the app is not a viable long-term solution, especially when users have already invested considerable time and effort without resolution.
What is particularly frustrating is that this issue has existed since the launch of the mobile apps, and many users have raised concerns over the years. Yet, there appears to have been no meaningful progress in resolving the problem.
I would caution other users considering the purchase of a mobile device for the purpose of using Logos. Based on my experience, investing in a Mac device may offer a more stable and functional experience than relying on the mobile apps.
Regrettably, this experience has diminished my confidence in Logos. I now approach even basic features with skepticism, given that foundational functionality continues to underperform.
I hope this feedback is received in the spirit of constructive criticism. I remain hopeful that Logos will reconsider its approach to mobile support and work toward a more reliable and user-friendly experience across all platforms.
