why can't I put an anchor on all verses?

I really like the notes a lot, but something I find kind of unusual is that I cannot place an anchor on verses which are next to each other. I find this kind of frustrating, actually, since sometimes I really need a note on ALL the verses the note is addressing, not just every other verse.

When I am just reading the text, it is kind of annoying, but not a huge issue. However, if I search for a word, I seem to ONLY be able to see references with that specific word. In Accordance there is a little slider and I can move it to show a verse or more of the context, but my understanding is that it doesn't work like that here. (If there is a way, please let me know). Thus, if my anchor is on the verse next to that word, I won't see my note.

Part of the problem is the fact that books show my anchors, but if I only have anchors on alternating verses, then when a book discusses one of the verses without an anchor my note does not appear.

I understand that I could put an anchor on every verse, then the books would show my anchors (even though they don't appear on the text itself), but that is not practical since Logos always puts the note on the first of the list. So for example, if I would like a note on Gen 1:1, but I need the note on Gen 1:2, I pretty much have to skip Gen 1:1 in order to get it to at least show on Gen 1:2.

What seems logical would be an anchor of Gen 1:1-3 would only show on Gen 1:1, but multiple anchors of Gen 1:1, Gen 1:2, Gen 1:3 would show on all of them.

So I guess my question is how other people resolve this, or if this can be improved in an update.

When doing an Inline Search - which I think is what you are describing - you can choose to search within a verse or within the entire chapter (those are the only two options available)

I don't understand what you are describing here - please clarify.

Hi @Graham Criddle, thank you for the screenshot and clarifying that, that is helpful to know. :) Regarding the second part about anchors on every verse, what I mean is that when I create a note, it helps to have an anchor on the note. However, let's say I have a specific note which I want to be anchored and show on ALL the verses of Gen 1:1, Gen 1:2, and Gen 1:3. I have discovered the it is not possible. I can have the anchor on Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:3, but as soon as I also put it on Gen 1:2, the anchors will disappear and only show on Gen 1:1.

Is there a way for the anchor of the same note to appear on Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:2 and also Gen 1:3?

@Kristin, @Graham Criddle I'm not sure if I'm following this correctly, but let my see if this is helpful.

If you try to add an anchor from the note as a "reference" it shows that anchor as added in the note, but doesn't show up in the place you anchored it. I see that as well, that should be changed.

If you select the verse or the text where I want the anchor to show up, and add the anchor as "selected text" it does show up in each verse.

Is that an acceptable solution, or am I not understanding correctly? Here is a screenshot,

This is because the verse tagging encompasses the pericope title, but you have non-Bible text hidden via the "Bible text" visual filter.

It is a known issue that hiding the non-Bible text results in blank lines where pericope heading (and book introductions and such) are found.

Hi @Bill,

Thank you for your screenshot, I appreciate it. It actually took me a minute to respond in part from classes, but also since I had to give this some thought. I have a few concerns, so I will address the below also to @Graham Criddle, @Bradley Grainger (Logos), and @Andrew Batishko who have responded above.

Before I started using Logos, I had experienced really bad note corruption in the past and lost a lot of research as a result. So it was pretty serious and it has really taken a lot of thought before I even imported any of my notes into Logos at all. The more I work with Logos notes, the more I like them (despite the quirk of the default view not allowing notes to be sorted by biblical reference). However, I am still sort of cautious.

For example, my bible notebooks have ONLY biblical anchors. If I want to anchor some random Church Father or something, I have a totally different notebook for that to try to protect the notes. I have been assured on several occasions that notes in Logos don't corrupt, but just because of what I went through in the past, I am kind of jumpy.

That all said, I have actually NEVER anchored a word because I am scared to do so. However, given the fact that I oddly can't attach a visual anchor to all the verses I want to (as described above), I am wondering if anchoring words would be a needed workaround? That said, I have a few questions:

1) Does anchoring words along with references "stress" the system and risk problems?

2) I understand that notes are defaulted as sorted "by notebook" (what does that even mean within a notebook?) and the obvious "reference" is oddly grayed out. While I understand I can go through a multi-step process to force it to sorted by biblical references, by doing so I need to "filter" references. Thus, notes which are anchored to a word will not be included in the notes when sorted by reference. Is this correct?

(On a side note, this should not be the case since everything has a reference. If I anchor "waters" in Gen 1:2, obviously the anchor of "waters" would have a reference of Gen 1:2, but I fear it wouldn't be included in this filtering system).

3) Should I create a totally different notebook to include anchored words? This would be complicated, but I am worried that if they are in the same notebook they would be filtered out when sorting by reference.

4) Is there anything else important I need to consider?
