what happened to the spell check dictionary in Sermon Writer?

Why when I misspell a word in sermon writer it no longer can suggest a correct spelling? Its been about three weeks that I have had this problem. Am I the only one????? I am on a MS machine. Often, my mistakes are because I actually can't spell the word. I checked and spell check is working on this forum, why not in the program?????

Here's my layman's explanation (the only kind I'm able to give; I'm not a software developer):

Sermon Builder is basically it's own mini web app. That is why it works the same on both the Logos desktop app and web app, as well as on iPads and Android tablets. It's an "app inside an app." This is oversimplified, of course — there's also a communication layer so it can talk to the rest of the app, to know what to do with things like pasted text and handling links. The point is, it's mostly self-contained.

(Internally at the company, we call this a "shared component," since it's shared across multiple platforms. Other examples of shared components are Notes tool, Atlas, Bible Study Builder, Factbook, and many others. As a rule of thumb, if it's a tool that looks and acts essentially identically across desktop and web, it's probably a shared component.)

Because Sermon Builder is a web app, it needs to run in a web browser. On app.logos.com, of course, everything's already in a web browser, but in the desktop app, we need to load a browser inside the main application. For this we use an open-source version of Chrome, called the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF), which hosts Sermon Builder inside of a Logos panel.

Here's where spellcheck comes in: Just like the Chrome browser has its own spellcheck when you write anywhere on the web, CEF has its own spellcheck built in. This is the spellcheck the Logos desktop app uses for all our shared components like Sermon Builder and Notes. And this CEF spellcheck is where the bug is.

The bug is fixed in the newest version of CEF, which we are currently in the process of upgrading for v44. But because CEF is such a fundamental part of the Logos app, it takes time to make sure we do it correctly, and to test to make sure that it doesn't cause any other regressions.

We know this is an important bug fix for you all, and we will make it right; but we also don't want to rush to push a narrowly-focused "fix" that could end up causing more problems in other areas. I know it's not any less frustrating in the meantime, but I hope this explanation at least gives you some context and peace of mind while you wait patiently for v44 to ship.

For now, if spellcheck is a must, I would echo what others have said, and suggest you try Sermon Builder on app.logos.com.

Though version 44, that is two full updates away. Wow. Hard to comprehend something that has worked for so long, could be knocked offline to the point it will take two updates to fix.

I am having the same issue. It is pretty frustrating! I use Logos to write sermons. I have transitioned all my sermon prep, including writting, to Logos and we use Proclaim. Therefore to have a nonfunctioning spell checker is more than an inconvience. Now we have to wait a couple of months or more for a fix??

Please fix this. I also use Sermon Builder to write my sermons and Sunday School lessons. The spell check worked right up until 42.1.

As a work around, once I finish typing, I export to Word, run spellchecker in Word, then I can either cut and paste the corrected text back into my Logos document or I can use the sermon import to pull my Word document back into Logos.

This does add extra steps. I have been hoping that Logos will make the Sermon Builder more robust for formatting and editing.

Love the program. Love the ease of researching my library. Please keep the things that work working in the future updates and improvements.

Not related : But I'm delighted to see that sermon preachers are not using AI to write sermons seeing the complaints made here.

I had no idea that there was a webb app. It's a little clumsy compared to the desktop app, but at least the spell check works for now.

I am using sermon builder today on a MAC book Pro. Spell check is working again! Is there a difference because I'm using my MAC and not my Windows machine?

Every time I spell a word incorrectly I am reminded how irritating this is, that red squiggly line mocks me. A word processor without spell checking seems bad enough to release an emergency fix.
