Scrolling performance in high refresh rates monitors

May I know if there's a way to enable support for higher than 60hz refresh rates in Logos/Verbum app? I found scrolling Factbook, Search & Bible Word Study were stuttering.

Bible & Commentary's panel were scrolling reasonably. Tested on 100hz monitor & ProMotion screens.

My expectation is that the problem of stuttering has more to do with the computer and less to do with the monitor. At any rate, there is not a specific setting within Logos for the purpose of supporting higher refresh rates.

@Michelle I have a late model Macbook Pro M4 Max, and I get 120Hz at times in Verbum. I did some testing which I will explain below; from what I saw, results are based on how busy the app code is, and the power of the computer. It appears your computer is capable of 120Hz since you ran the browser test which you showed, and your Mac supports ProMotion. Now your computer settings could influence it if it's on some sort of power saving mode. There is a setting under Battery, "On power adapter" - I have mine set on "High Power" (on battery setting is 'Automatic'). This lets the computer go full-bore when plugged in; by setting 'on adapter' to automatic or low power it might kick in some throttling or power saving more aggressively, which would hurt the scrolling speed.

From what I see I can also assume Logos/Verbum doesn't disable high refresh, cap the framerate, have any hardcoded framerates in their code, and are using latest dev tools etc., since I can get 120Hz scrolling speed using it. Other than doing something to STOP 120Hz, they don't have to do anything to enable it.

Apple/MacOS manages the refresh rate based on all of this. I may be wrong, but I seem to remember Logos/Verbum on Mac now uses Metal, which is very efficient too. So everything is set for running 120Hz.

However - in order to hit 120Hz, the app has to be rendering frames at no more than about 8ms (this is probably in their foundational code, but they have to build the results and pass them to be rendered fast enough). Without going real deep, there are coding techniques that facilitate this more than others - how efficient Logos code is, who knows. But since people don't generally complain about scrolling compared to other priorities, even if it's not ideally efficient for scrolling, improving that may be low on the list.

With all that said - I used one of the dev tools to watch frame rates doing some of the Verbum functions, including ones you mentioned. I included some screen caps below. The first is scrolling Bible Knowledge Commentary - if you look in the lower right corner, where the green "OE" is, you see two numbers - 118 (120). This means at the instant I took the picture, frame rate was 118Hz, and in the latest sample period (seems to be about 5 seconds), the max frame rate was 120Hz - very fast!

So scrolling BKC easily hits 120Hz.

Next is Factbook; I expanded all the 'more' sections in the Commentaries section, so I had plenty to scroll through. You can see here at the instant it was 111Hz, max 120Hz as well - so also, very fast:

The last one I did was a Search - I expanded all the "more" sections so I could scroll up and down really fast. I did a Smart search first. Now I will say that to me it scrolled great, but you can see by the measurement 61 (68) it is much slower. I think I recall that each 'more' section might get re discovered? In any case, I also tried searching for 'Jesus' in a Precise search too, and the results were about the same.

In general for more extended tests, it looks like Verbum struggles to consistently hit 60 Hz scrolling on a search. On a slower computer (mine is very fast), I could see that causing a perceptible lag - but on the other hand, how many times does someone just scroll up and down in a search as fast as they are able?
