I wanted to study Psalm 42:6, but in most resources the passage study starts from the next verse.

Probably a matter of different verse maps. What is your top prioritized Bible?
Verse 6 in the English translation corresponds to verse 7 in the Hebrew Bible. In the Hebrew Bible, the title is designated as verse number 1: “To the choirmaster. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah.” (Psalm 42:title in ESV and Verse 1 in the Hebrew Bible). In English translations, Verse 1 signifies the commencement of the psalm's main body, which begins with (“As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.” (Psalm 42:1, ESV)). Please refer to the attached screenshot from The Lexham Hebrew-English Interlinear Bible below, which illustrates Psalm 42 with varying verse numbers, as well as the “Manuscript” and “English Literal Translation.” In scholarly commentaries, such as the Word Biblical Commentary, when provided with their direct translations, they often display both numbering systems; in this case, the verse number appears as “7(6)” (see screenshot below).
