Why is Logos searching for local networks?

Maybe once a week or so I get a pop-up from my Mac saying that Logos is trying to search for local networks. So I just click "don't allow" and it goes away until the next time I get the pop-up. Logos has internet connection and is syncing without an issue, so what is this? It isn't a big deal, I am mainly just curious.

I suspect (don't know) it's Sunday Proclaim related. Not so long ago every Sunday it'd ask me.

Hi @DMB, just out of curiosity, if it is connected to Proclaim, what would the connection be?

Well, again, flying blind. But on Sunday my iphone would act as if in church using Proclaim, as a member. Even though not near a church with Proclaim.

I haven't seen it for a while.

My understanding is that the OS displays this prompt when an app is trying to scan local devices on a network - one reason for it doing this is if you try and access a network printer.

So it's a security mechanism to prevent apps silently scanning your network without you being aware of it.

There is an option in settings to indicate which apps have authority to scan networks (and I don't know why there are multiple entries for Logos and Verbum - maybe different components)

Hi @DMB, ok, interesting. I am grateful I don't have that issue anyway. Searching for networks is at least better (thought it seems to raise a privacy flag…).

Hopefully someone here knows what it technically means, but either way, I was mainly just curious.

Thank you for the screenshot. We must have been typing at the same time for me to have not seen your response. I checked my settings, and I have the same thing, where there are 3 Logos permissions and 2 Verbum permissions, and like you, all 5 are disabled. (I guess that is why I am getting the pop-up asking me to give permission or deny access, or it would do it without me knowing it).

Regarding the rest of what you said though, part of my concern is that other networks sounded like the wi-fi networks of random people who might live nearby. If I am understanding correctly, it would mean other networks on my own wi-fi (like a printer). Is this correct? Or is it actually trying to connect to my neighbor?

Part of the confusion is that I am not trying to print or anything similar. The only thing I am actually doing is importing my notes.

(On a side note, I learned that Accordance needs an update in order to work on Tahoe, so just given the note corruption issues which I have had in the past, I have decided to just bite the bullet and do nothing but import my notes until they are done since I don't want to download Tahoe until my notes are safe. That all said, my understanding is that Logos is working fine on Tahoe, so whenever I in fact do finish my notes (the end of the year God willing), I can just download Tahoe without an issue. Is that correct?)

Other network devices on your own network - yes

I'm afraid I don't know what triggers the app to do something that would trigger this prompt

Hi @Graham Criddle, ok, thanks for clarifying that, and I am relieved that it is only searching within my network. Regarding why it is happening, it isn't important, as I really was just curious, but if someone from Logos is able to answer, maybe they can also clarify why we all have multiple entries in settings for Logos and Verbum.
