Free version & building a library

If you're running the free version of Logos, is there anything stopping you building out your library with that version?

Can I use the free version and still buy library packages (baptist silver, reformed gold, etc), or do you have to have a subsciption to do that?

If you have the free version is there anything stopping you buying many many individual books?

Asking on behalf of some students at my seminary :)

No.

Some may find that with subscription it is sufficient for studies, it varies among individuals.

Yes, financial reasons 😀 I'll get it all if I have the resources. Just a wishful thinking, may God forgive lol.

But the real reason is that sometimes it's a better deal to get in Collections or Library package.

No, if I really really want that book.

Michelle is correct. You can use the free version and buy as many books as you like. Even if you subscribe for a while and then go back to the free version, you can continue to buy books.

Logos has good deals for students. You may as well take advantage of them.

As far as using Logos free version long term with owned resources and not paying a subscription, many are now questioning the wisdom of that. You are prohibited from purchasing many of the advanced features, and the free version (even for L10 feature set owners) seems to be exploring the limits of how much advertising and nagging messages the user base will tolerate.

The remaining competitors still let you own the software without the in-app ads and continual pressure to pay a subscription.

But those competitors offer less selection in resources.

Kindle makes more sense for some types of resources. And so do good old fashioned printed books.

One item to be aware of is that libraries usually cost about 10% of buying the books individually. Starter libraries are usually $40, and Bronze libraries are usually $90, and these are great ways to build your personal library quickly. If a book you want us in a library, it may only cost a bit more to buy the library, and occasionally it will cost less to buy the library rather than the individual book. On the page to add the book to your cart, there will be a section of is available in a library.

Another piece of information that's useful is that Logos uses Dynamic Pricing. If you buy a library, or book collection, and you already own part of the library, the price will be discounted. For example, if you have the 2025 Starter Library and decide you want the 2025 Bronze Library, the price on the Bronze Library will be discounted because all of the books in the Starter Library are also on the Bronze Library. Again, this helps when building your personal library.

Remember, FL started out limiting 2025 libraries to subscribers only. Then, relented? Or L10'ers? Forgot.

In any event, the company's a bit squirrel'y on non-subscribers.

Would I load up books, assuming basically reading and searching only? Not me, looking long-term, abd digital licenses.
