"as a subscriber" while not a subscriber question

I get a lot of marketing emails from Logos, and sometimes it has a free book. So I clicked ok. I am familiar with this process, and historically when I click on it, I need to click again to see if it says "owned" or not, and then click a third time to move it to the cart and a fourth to actually buy the book for $0.

That all said, I clicked on the "free book" link, and this time it did have the free book listed, but above it was this subscriber ad, which I had never seen at this point in the process before. While it did catch my attention, what actually concerned me is that the free book said I was receiving a discount "as a subscriber." So then I got scared, if I actually buy the free book, will that activate some trial which I for sure don't want to do? Or can I safely buy the book on the bottom of the page and ignore the ad at the top?

Since it said "as a subscriber" I did check my profile and it still says everything is ok. So is it safe to buy this book? Or is it a mouse trap?

Thanks for any clarity anyone is able to provide.

Thanks for clarifying this. Any idea how I can get rid of it? Under the book it says "Remove" but I don't see how to remove the subscription thing.

ps - Hi @Aaron Hamilton, never mind, I found the remove button. :) That made the free book go to $15 something and I was able to remove that too. I will for sure be careful about these free books to check the cart before I press enter. Thank you again.

Every month, Logos offers a free book on the 1st and the 15th for everyone. In addition, Logos offers one free book per month that is exclusive to subscribers.

I expect a closer reading of the email would have revealed that this free book is tied to a subscription.

Hi @Aaron Hamilton,

Given what you wrote, I see the problem. So I went back to the email and it was a free book (I think), and so I clicked on it. However, when I did, two books showed up. I clicked the one on the left but when I tried to add it to the cart it literally wouldn't, and clicking "Claim your free book" brought me to my shopping cart, and there was no way to add it to the cart.

So then at that point I thought I had clicked on the wrong thing and so I did it again and clicked the one on the right without reading it carefully. This one does add to the cart, but tacks on that subscription. I tried claiming the free book on the left again, but it still just tells me my shopping cart is empty. I don't know what this book is on the left, so I don't really care if I can download it or not, but I am curious why I can't add it to my cart.

My expectation is that it's not working because you already own the book. To prevent confusion, the link would ideally indicate that you already own it.

You can check this page to confirm ownership. If you scroll down, 1 Peter (Word Biblical Themes) is the current free book, and it is the first book listed. It will show as owned here if you own it.

Hi @Aaron Hamilton, thanks for the clarification. When I clicked on that link you provided I was met with the "claim your free book" page (where I am used to it saying "owned"). Anyway, so I then just went to my Library and started typing his name, and you are correct that I own it. So it is strange that it didn't say "owned" like it has always previously done, but this at least explains it. Thanks again for clarifying this.
