I've always run Logos on Windows OS desktops. How difficult is it to switch from my current Windows 11 Logos to an Apple OS Mini desktop?
Logos will be almost identical on a Mac as it is on Windows. Some of the hot keys will be different. Once you get it installed it will look and work almost identical.
Switching from Windows to Mac in general does have a learning curve, but worth the effort. There are millions of videos on YouTube helping learn the differences between Windows and Mac. The Mac and it’s operating system is superior to Windows in almost every way.
The Mac experience is greatly enhanced by Apples high PPI Retina display, and the trackpad. A lot of people buy the Mac mini and then attach it to a cheap monitor. They are missing out on the biggest benefit IMO.
But everyone’s financial situation is different. The 24 inch iMac is an equally great deal and comes with a Retina display built-in. You will never regret upgrading the display, especially if you spend many hours reading from the screen. If Apple is too expensive, I would at least get a decent 4k display as a minimum. Those will be on sale for Black Friday too.
The Apple mouse I never thought was so great. After trying it out I went back to a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse.
Best Buy had the entry level mini $100 off last week as a pre-black Friday sale. It’s a good bet the sale will be back on Black Friday. The only possible caveat with the entry level mini would be the 256GB SSD space. It would be enough for most people, but depending on what you do it could get filled up.
Just install Logos on the Mac (from the Logos.com site). It installs, loads all your books and your notes, etc You're in business! Easy peasy.
I use both Windows and Mac.
Thank you both for your responses. I have another question for John - you stated that you canned the Apple mouse for a MS Bluetooth mouse. Do you use the Apple keyboard with the Mac? Just wondering if you like it better than Logitech or MS keyboards. Thank you.
@Kim Dixon …
Hi Kim. I personally did not care for the mouse because it was so much different than what I was used to. The mouse actually has a trackpad surface on top of it so you can move your fingers over the entire surface and it moves the cursor on the screen. it is not necessarily bad. It’s just not what I got used to in many many years. I personally would never buy any mouse except for a Microsoft blue-track mouse.
the Apple keyboard is fine, but it is not a traditional mechanical style keyboard . I like the Microsoft keyboard that I have on my Windows 7 machine better. But again it might just come down to personal preference. I’m getting used to the Apple keyboard a little bit the more I use it but whenever I get to one of the Office stores or Best Buy I always look to see what they have on sale. there’s several companies that make gaming keyboards with a very mechanical feel and click. But so far, I have not replaced the Apple keyboard. If you didn’t already know, there are some keys on the Apple keyboard that are different than the windows keyboard.
if you buy the Mac mini, it will not come with a keyboard or a mouse. So you will decide for yourself which of each you would prefer. if you have a mouse you’re using on your Windows machine that you like, you can keep using it on the Mac.
you could try out an Apple mouse in the store and see if you like it first. I think they are around $100 if I remember correctly. If you were to buy the iMac, it will come with an Apple keyboard and a mouse.
so again you might really like them. It’s a matter of personal preference or what you get used to. what you probably don’t have if you have a desktop Windows machine is a trackpad. The way macOS uses the trackpad, it is a lot more useful than a trackpad on windows. because I had a MacBook before I got my desktop iMac, once I was running on the desktop I really missed having the trackpad so I ended up buying a magic trackpad and unlike the Apple mouse I have never regretted that purchase.
The trackpad is another thing that you can try in the store before you buy. They probably won’t have a separate trackpad for iMac in the store, but they always have MacBooks that have a built-in trackpad. Once you learn how to control scrolling and swipe from one screen to another using different gestures, and zooming in and out with just the trackpad, it becomes very habit forming.
Hi All, Wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same issue. When I watch the videos in a course, whenever I select a new (or the next) video to watch, Logos would freeze for about 3 minutes and then show the video: This is quite frustrating and makes it difficult to enjoyably work through the course and study.
When you limit the Study Assistant to "Your Books" does that include books in your print library?
Books I am reading keep hyperlinking The Text of the Earliest New Testament Greek Manuscripts by Comfort. However, when I click on the hyperlink the book is not for sale. Is it just on a different Logos link? Or is there a more recent edition this text has been replaced by? Thank you for any help anyone is able to provide.
anyone received theirs? I have not
