Linking Algorithm Used On New Commentaries Is Flawed

The newer commentaries have a flaw in the links that were made within the commentary and therefore to the linked books. This is especially a problem with the ESVEC where the best solution is to turn off the links when using the commentary along with the Bible text.

Both at the start and the end of the section's commentary the problem is seen if the comment text covers more than a single verse. When one selects the linked verses at the head of the comment (mine are in bold blue), then the commentary jumps to the beginning of the chapter/section of the commentary - and takes the linked Bibles to the starting section's verses.

This is a problem with multiple verses only. When there is a single verse that begins the portion of the comment, then the links behave as desired.

The broken algorithm appears with newer books. As I review older books such as the Mentor commentary on Psalms, the links keep the user at the comment section as desired.

For now, I report these to Logos using the comment section of the report typo. I am unaware if Logos is taking any action with these comments.

Dear Logos - Please repair the linking tool that is currently being used, and please go back and repair the commentaries that have been damaged by the current tool.

I think I am misunderstanding as it sounds like you are describing how it has always worked with linked sets. Can you describe what has changed i.e. how it used to work?

I see no difference between single verses and multiple verses; whether in ESVEC or TOTC.
I did notice a difference with NIGTC but remember that commentary milestones are not unique e.g. Rom 12:8 appears in 12:3-8, multiple headings, then another section 12:3-8, and nothing happens when one clicks the latter passage. Rom 12:5 has a unique occurrence, unlike v.8, so clicking that sees it jump to the top of the panel.
But the bible reference is always found, as you describe.

@MJ. Smith I gave the example of the older works such as the Mentor commentaries. When I select the multiple verse link, the commentary stays as is with perhaps minor movement in the active window.

ESVEC works properly except when the first comment or the last comment in a section/chapter is for multiple verses. When those first and last comment links are clicked with the left mouse button, the commentary jumps to the top of the commentary chapter. When the first comment or last comment is for a single verse, all behave as expected.

When I scroll the Bible past these same problem areas, the commentary also jumps to the top of the chapter. If I place the Bible on the left pane and ESVEC on the right pane and go to Psalm 126, the scrolling of the Bible will not align with the commentary, but instead the commentary stays glued at the introduction of Psalm 126. Psalms 127-129 perform the same way.

ESVEC is a new addition to my library this year - and I would say it has never worked properly for the two conditions that I've identified. These are often how commentaries are put together with comments on multiple verses.

I've found other nuances to where a similar condition of jumping occurs such as what @Dave Hooton mentioned in his reply, but those are relatively rare and not worth the effort to fix at this time.
