I seem to have received a different book from my order. Now what?

I just had a super weird experience, where I appear to have bought a resource, and received a different resource.

As a preface, I have several monographs of the Qur'an, which are pretty useless to me. So I went looking and saw that Logos in fact did have a copy as a "Research Edition". So I bought it.

However, when I went to my library and searched books added today, the only thing is a monograph, and it has a totally different title talking about the meaning of it. I literally don't care about the meaning right now, I just need a functional hyperlinked copy, and now I can add this monograph to my collection of monographed Qur'ans.

Is there a way for me to get the Research Edition that I bought?

I don't think you got the wrong book. The product description says that the Logos resource only contains the text of the Qur'an and not the additional notes and material that may be bundled together with it in print editions that are called "The meaning of the Qur'an". If you open the book you will find it's a translation of the Qur'an into more modern English, not a commentary on the book.

I think you misunderstand the meaning of "Research edition" if you put this in opposition to "monograph". The moniker "monograph" is the catch-all type for all library resources that are not (through to indexing and/or content) put into another bucket, such as bibles, bible commentaries, lexicons…. Research edition in this specific work means that it has been provided with an index (so you can compare the translation of verses / suras between various editions of the Qur'an and have the highest-prioritzed open when some other resource cites the Qur'an by verse). The product description with its last paragraph "Using your Logos Bible Software, you can conduct word studies to compare the text of the Qur'an with your preferred Bible. The tools and capabilities of the Logos Bible Software system make an analytical study of the Qur'an possible and easy." makes it sound as if this was some kind of Reverse Interlinear to the Arabic, but that understanding is not true. There is no Arabic edition of the Qur'an in Logos, to the best of my knowledge.

no, this is the same. Many Muslims hold that the Quran cannot actually be translated; what you are reading in English is the meaning of the Quran. When you look at copies of this author elsewhere, the full title is as appears in your download. I suspect Logos does not have anyone who does much with Islam and thus misstated the title in the catalogue/marketing.

And yes, you can get it in Arabic in Logos.

Hi @NB.Mick, thank you so much! I already followed @NichtnurBibelleser's advice, so we will see what they say when they get back to me, but thank you for clarifying this. You are correct that I don't understand monographs, so let me explain what I think, and if anything I say is wrong, please let me know. In my mind "monograph" means "the references don't function." So even if there is a reference, you can't link it, and the only option you have is to link quotes.

By contrast "Research edition" means the verses are functional. So when it said "monograph" I thought that it meant it wasn't functional, and when I opened it and there weren't hyperlinks, it seemed to just be another "monograph." I think what I had thought a monograph was is actually a "Reader's Edition"? Is that correct?

Anyway, in light of what you said, however, I just tried searching verses in it and it links to notes fine! :) So that fixes the problem. Thank you for clarifying this and I am super happy that the verses attach to notes.

Hi @Ben, thanks for confirming it is the same. You are for sure correct that Muslims reject translations as accurate, and tbh, I kind of agree, since all of the available translations are so archaic sounding to the point of it blurring the meaning. Of the English versions available, is there one you feel is the most accurate?

I did four years of Classical Arabic and have read some, but am far from expert. I don't think the Quran has quite the same kind of lexical and text-critical issues as the HB/NT, so English translations are more or less equivalent on that note. It's more about target language and style. I tend to recommend the Study Quran to people, and it's been request here as well.

"Monograph" is a resource type, indicating the type of content and just means it doesn't fit into any other category of resource type. You can view resource types in your library in the application.

"Research Edition" is the edition, which indicates how much attention to tagging has been applied. You should be able to click the learn more button at the top of the product page in the store next to the edition indicator in order to see details. You can also view these in your library.

Hi @Andrew Batishko, thank you for clarifying this. I had for sure been confusing "monograph" with the definition of the "Readers Edition." Thank you for clarifying this, and I am grateful to understand this. For the future I will just be mindful if something is a Research or Readers edition, and not whether it is a monograph or not.

If you don't mind, I do have two other questions. Sometimes a resource on the product page is not listed as either a Research or Readers edition. In that case, that just means the text was uploaded in a PDF type manner and has no linking of any sort, is that correct?

Likewise "Enhanced for Logos" means it is either a Readers or Research edition. Is this correct?

Anyway, I am actually more confused about this than I had been. What I had been seeing was that some resources were "Enhanced for Logos" and some are not. So I thought that the "Research Edition" was "enhanced" and the other wasn't. However, I just clicked on the two things in my screenshot which are NOT enhanced, and I see they are actually both Research Editions. So now I am not sure what "Enhanced for Logos" actually means. Could you clarify that?

I don't think you need it, but just in case I will link the two resources which were not enhanced.

Definitely reach out to Customer Service and ask for a refund. This happened to me with Barnes & Noble a while back. It was strange like your issue. I ordered one title and received something completely different. They need to notify the publisher about this.

Sorry, I don't have a solid answer for you. I asked around and wasn't able to get any clarity. The one thing I note is that the "Enhanced for Logos" maybe doesn't show up on collections, only on individual books?
