Hey everyone! I would like to know whether you use the canvas tool in Logos and, if so, how you use it. I currently use it to help me break down scripture passages for easier understanding. The Canvas Tool has become part of my sermon preparation.
I don't.
While I haven't messed with it in several years, I initially tried to use it for live text mark-up during classes. It was much too cumbersome and difficult (i.e., non-intuitive) to use for that purpose.
I then tried to use it for prepared text mark-up and still found it non-competitive with some iOS apps for that purpose. I also have a subscription to BibleArc for this purpose. I use BA more for phrase diagramming, but also for some mark-up. If Logos could integrate something like what BA has for easy phrase diagramming, it would be a killer in that market, IMO.
I'd love to have a tool within Logos that can do quick, easy, and intuitive text mark-up, but I've not found Canvas to be that tool. If someone tells me it has improved into such a critter, I'll give it another try.
I've just started using it again after several years, primarily for sermon prep.
Creating a Canvas file with my sermon text is the first stage of my prep. I then open it up on my tablet and start annotating, underlining, scribbling notes.
Like Doc B, I don't find it to be the most user-friendly tool. For example, (on Android, at least), you can't pinch to zoom but have to use the zoom in/out buttons. Anything hand-drawn is added as an image that sits over the main text, making it hard to select words etc. It is generally quite clunky and not the easiest to use.
I don't tend to use any of the built-in highlighters/shapes etc. mainly because they're not easy to use on mobile.
Having said all that, it's working for me right now for what I use it for.
@Richard Wardman Is Canvas available on Android now? Every time I click it on my tablet it just crashes the app. Not sure if it's just there to keep the UI consistent across platforms or maybe it's my hardware.
It works for me! It opens in the Web browser.
I have been using it for an inductive study and also making Bible charts.
I used it to create a Hebrew diagram during my PhD program. I had a video created about it, but it's long gone. I may need to shoot a new one.
@Dr. Nathan Parker thanks and Iād like to see those videos.
@Gregory Kavonius those are cool!!!
