Clicking on the AI credits icon isn't producing a menu at all showing how many credits I have left.

sometimes a memory glitch occurs and you need to restart the app, did you try that?
Yep, I even rebooted the Mac. Still see it.

I just double checked mine. When I click on it, it does the same as yours.
When I hover, it shows the usage.
The only time I can click on it is if there are other messages such as updating books or indexing. If I click on it while those things are happening, it'll show me what is going on. But, if there are not updates, preparing the library or indexing, I have to hover to see how many credits I have used.
When is your reset day? When it initially resets and you have used zero … it behaves as you describe.
What M.J. says is true. In that case it would go back to normal after you have made further use of AI features. Assuming that you have, and issue remains, I would let support know.
Just checked mine with some usage evident via the partial ring. Cant't click, but hovering (be patient) will display the percent used and give the refill date.
I might have worked it out. When I first saw your post I had a number of listings that came up when I clicked on the feature. There was a list of recently updated books and the recent version of the app I had downloaded and installed, as well as a list of recently updated data sets.
Each of these lists have a little X next to it and click clicking on it removes the list from the feature. So I clicked on all three which leaves me only with the percentage of AI that I've used.
Now when I click on the feature nothing happens, the only response I get is what the others are saying when I hover eventually a pop-up tells me about my usage.
I'm expecting that when I download another book, or when another book is updated or a data updated or I download a new version of the app clicking will reveal that information in the list.
It's a possibility, anyway, that this is what's happened to you.

Mine was working until I did a few summaries, then it stuck.
Today, I did have another update (books), and that kicked it back in.
