Christian eschatology is an area of doctrine with many views and is very difficult to sort out.

One author I have found who is very helpful is N.T. Wright. He gets to the heart of the major misunderstandings and explains things in easy to understand terms.

I just began his new book (not available on Logos yet) called Gods Homecoming. I had the audiobook on preorder at audible and it was just release this last week.

This book is the much awaited sequel to his previous book Surprised by hope (available on Logos). Both of these books are excellent and uncover the platonic view of disembodied spirits that “go to heaven” after death, as opposed to the Bible which teaches a bodily resurrection. Somehow the church today has embraced the view that we “go to heaven”, rather than the kingdom of God which is “on earth”, as in heaven.

I recommend these books for anyone who is questioning some of the differing views on prophesy today. Probably best to read the latter title first, and then the sequel.

You might consider reading Four Views on the Book of Revelation. I have not read this book, but from the title I'm guessing it'll give an overview of the different theories.

However, I would recommend Craig Blaising's article in Three Views on the Rapture from the Zondervan Counterpoints series. That's going to be one of the mainstream treatments on this topic, plus you'll also be able to contrast it with the other two major positions.
