Intel-Mac Desktop App Continually Crashes within 20 minutes of Logos AI use. Every single time.
When you mention AI use, can you give a specific example?
And please enable diagnostic logging and post logs after a crash (details of doing this are here)
Thanks for picking this up. I say 20 minutes as an estimate. Any and all queries with the smart search function, all books, Bible, my books. Any and all queries within the study assistant. I keep my queries short and specific, e.g., "How many major and minor judges are reported in the book of Judges?" "What is type of Old Testament narrative style is used in Samuel-Kings" "What are different hermeneutical theories surrounding the intepretation of epistles?" I toggle back and forth between print library, my books, open books, and all books with the same prompt to see what sort of responses it can generate. I use it for ideation and exploration. I have enabled diagnostic logging and note when it happens again.
@Brian Behnken What else are you doing in those 20 mins (estimated), whether in Logos or other apps?
I usually have Logos on a second screen with multiple Word documents open and Obsidian in another window. If i'm not utilizing it and forgot to close Logos, I have RStudio, terminals and a browser running. When I return to it it also shuts down. This happens even if Logos is the only program running. I try not to have two separate workflows (Logos-writing; R-coding) running but that's the real time information.
@Brian Behnken So you will attempt to reproduce the problem by running AI and then switching to other apps, waiting for Logos to crash? Or will you run AI and do nothing until Logos crashes? Alternatively, how long will you wait before returning to Logos to see if it crashes?
Well, now that I posted this, I've tried both, and it hasn't crashed, so I'm not sure what happened. This was a pattern for the last two weeks and now it's not doing anything except working well.
It finally crashed when I hit the search icon.
@Brian Behnken we need the Logos.log at the time of the crash (before you restart the app). The Error log does not reveal anything significant after 25 Feb.
Apologies.
It did it again just now.
And again.
I'm beginning to see, now that I'm paying more attention, that it is random. But today it crashed twice within 10 minutes.
The log files are not helpful as they barely get further than 1 minute from startup.
Set logging to "Yes" in Program Settings and then restart the app. Perform a Smart Search or Study Assistant query and note the time on your computer. Note the time the app crashes and upload the log file before restarting. Provide the times you noted above.
I see. I thought I had followed the instructions. My apologies. Here are two logs where I had two crashes over the course of the evening and morning. I'm not sure if this is helpful either since they're in between crash and restart cycles, but the program has been set to logging since last week.
@Brian Behnken Please follow the procedure in my previous post.
I followed all instructions.. I hope.
Here is another one.
Where are the times I requested. I need the times to properly correlate events in the log.
You need an Apple Silicon Mac (just kidding!).
I see. Okay, my apologies. When I inspected the log, I saw the time of the crash as the last time stamp on the bottom. I checked the bottom of the log to make sure that the very last entry was when it crashed. I also searched the log and saw queries like this: 026-03-06 06:11:56.0804 INFO 42 BibleStudySearchPanelComponentInteropRequestHandler | Returning initial search results for SearchId: 3f5ba7634a5f4cf5ad7a68807f3a4f1c; query: Is Israel ever portrayed as the divine warrior I also had six other AI queries that session.

I thought that had the information you wanted. That's why I didn't comment on it further. At this point, I wasn't sure about any correlation between AI use and crashing because it became so random. The only detail I've noticed now is that it crashes when I click the "search" tool or the "library" tool. But that's all I have besides what's in the log.
The logs are not sufficient to establish a pattern of crashing. So submit logs after clicking the Search or Library tools.
To be clear, in general whenever I click those buttons, or only after it crashes? Because the last two logs are after I clicked those tools after 6+ AI queries. I've been using it over the weekend with no crashes so far but given that it had this pattern last week I'm wondering when it will start again.
Only after it crashes. But I thought you meant the crash is immediate, so the logs will not be of much assistance. I can only recommend that you allow Tech Support to diagnose your computer.
