Value of Volume 8 (Index) of TDOT/TDNT

Currently the The Theological Dictionary of the Old Testament and New Testament Collection (TDOT/TDNT) is on sale at a 60% discount. I have all the volumes except Volume 8 (The Index) so the price is good.

I can't see any value of having the Index in Logos, because searching is easy without it, but I'm asking the question here just in case I am missing something. What value have you found to owning this index?

That really depends on you (of course). In the screencopy below, you'll notice the left-resource is the one you're asking about … I've renamed it for what it's actually good for. Basically, TDOT/NT references are grouped by their source. And that's where you come in … is that significant to you? I put TDOT on the right … squinting, you'll find the Arad reference in a non-linked reference to the Canaanite Incriptions volume (which IS linked in the index volume … don't ask). That last statement is best I can see.

EDIT: But anyway the power SHOULD be when you're in a source volume (eg Inscriptions), and you aren't aware the word/phrase is actually discussed in TDOT (using a CitedBy). However, that Index volume was hard to link … I had to pull it out of series, etc. And active links still don't get picked up by a CitedBy. DCL, oddly enough, is considerably better.

So … for me, good, but not great.

I've spoken with people who actively use it. There's a niche use for certain researchers who require it for particular research projects.

If you don't fall into that category (most of us don't), you likely don't need it, especially if you're well-versed in searching.
