When (if ever) will we have a subscription model with book rentals like Perlego?… Until then, the features of the new Logos (vs. the old Logos for those who already had it) don't justify the high price, in my opinion.
Not ever! It was not considered viable without subscriptions.
I thought the subscriptions already came with a library of books. (Most of which I already own)
Perlego is a different concept. You pay a subscription and can access their entire library via the app or a browser at any time, without any limits on the number of books. In my view it’s the way Logos will have to go in the end. I have a Perlego subscription which means I spend a lot less on Logos books nowadays as I go there first when I want to refer to, or read a book. It means I can quickly look something up without buying a book , I can give up on a book part way through without feeling I’ve wasted money on it, and check citations when marking papers without owning the book or having to go to a physical library. It also has note taking and highlighting facilities and I believe it won’t be long before you can export notes and highlights to Readwise, something many of us have often asked for on here. It isn’t a specialist theological library but covers a multitude of subjects so I also use it for books on technology, psychology and maths.

By selling out to the subscription model, Logos has positioned itself to compete against other subscription services. Now it must compete at that level. Either they must go the Perlego route, which may be inevitable (but they are way behind the curve), or they will have to return to what they used to do best: sell libraries. I agree that the future of Logos likely rests in the Perlego model. Either that or size dawn vastly to search-engine software—but then they have to compete against AI, which is developing exponentially faster than Logos. Or maybe go back to what they used to do best (but bailed out of before it got good) —create a highly refined search engine. Not likely. So…I dunno. The world is changing. I love my Logos library. But won't buy more than hit-or-miss until Logos makes some kind of direction clear enough to make further investment viable. We shall see.

@GaoLu Could you please elaborate on that? I.e. why do you assume that?
To be clear, it is not Logos you have to convince to go to the Perlego model. It is the publishers. As far as I can see, there are no technical barriers that would mean Logos would not be able to very quickly offer a subscription to every single resource offered by a specific publisher if said publisher requested Logos to do so.
I think Jeremy is right. Don’t the current Logos subscriptions include most of the titles Logos owned the rights to? All that remains is for the publishers to all sign up for monthly subscription payments rather than one time purchases.
Obviously not many people will pay big money for libraries as they did in the past if most or all of the resources are available in a (relatively) cheap subscription payments.
You will own nothing and be happy?
