Free Book Preview Sneak Peek!

What if you had a couple days to examine a book in its entirety before you purchased it?

Monday, July 26th, we will begin offering Free Book Previews on the Logos iPhone app. I wanted to give our forum devotees a sneak peek at www.freebookpreview.com

I am working right now on some promotion for this new service and I just wanted to put the website up here and get some feedback/impressions from all of you. Seeing your responses and questions from an initial peek at the website will greatly help me in shaping the message.

Are those of us who use cell phones to make phone calls left out of this free preview? [8-|] I find the screen on my Blackberry to be ridiculously small for this type of use.

Very interesting! What about those of us who don't have iPhones? The text on that website said "Don’t have an iPhone? Go to Library.Logos.com from any mobile web browser and preview books from there." What about non-mobile web browsers, like IE on my home computer, for example? And I thought library.logos.com was being replaced by biblia.com? How come it's still being advertised for the free previews?

I believe it is.

Yup, but now you can do it at home on your computer. And do things digitally with those preview books that you never could have done in a book store or library, such as search through them.

I'll bet that it's easier to put a book down in a book store, than it will be allowing one to be taken off your machine when the trial expires. Especially when you have gotten all comfy with it, and use to it being there.

Ah. You found the blessing in this preview being designed for cell phones when I don't attempt to read books on a Blackberry. [8-|]

That's a great question. The Free Book Preview idea came out of
discussions on how to capitalize on the things that can be done with our
existing iPhone app. The library.logos.com addition came later but it
isn't an ideal fix to get the preview out to everyone.

The number one objective is to get Free Book Preview off the ground
and see how it flies. If it is a raging success within the confines of
the existing technology being used, it wouldn't be to difficult to
justify coming up with new avenues to provide previews.

You are right, if you can get a book store to let you stand there and look through one of their books for five days then it is exactly like that! The library metaphor is much closer to the truth but, unlike a library, our goal isn't to provide a free means to just consume the content. It is to provide a closer examination of different titles!

I'm mostly surprised that this has not been available in Logos for some years now. I think of all the times I have clicked on a link, only to get the message "You do not have access to this...". I can only imagine all the resources that I would have bought if I would have seen the message "You don't have access to this resource, but if you would like to try it for 5 days..."

It certainly would encourage me to buy even more books (if that is possible! [:)])
