Need the expertise of Rosie, Ted, and others...

Alright, Rosie, Ted and others...you guys seem to own the IVP Reference Library. I'd like for you to please give me your reviews on it. I've seen the IVP Background NT Commentary and seems pretty good and practical. I would, however, like to know more about the dictionaries included. Any help? I'm getting ready to order it because I've been debating for a while whether to get it or not, but I would really like to make sure before I buy it. Thanks in advance for all your input...not just Rosie, Ted but the others who wish to participate. Thanks!

The Black IVP dictionaries included in the IVP Reference Library are very good. Their genius is limiting the perspective in the articles for specific sections of scripture. They contain information that might get excluded in a general Bible dictionary.
The New Bible Dictionary is a solid single volume Bible Dictionary. It is my preferred single volume Dictionary. Of course multi-volume ones can provide more detail but it is very good.
As you alluded to the Bible Background commentaries are very helpful for both the Old and New Testaments. The Dictionary of Biblical imagery is one of my favorite resources to trace thematic uses of imagery in the Bible, very helpful.
The bottom line is that this collection is the most "bang for you buck" of anything you can get in Logos. I can't recommend it enough.

Please STOP the debate and make the purchase! These are some of the best dictionaries around and very detailed from a conservative view point. Apart from the Anchor Yale and perhaps the New International Standard Encyclopaedia I cannot think of any dictionary or encyclopaedia that rivals the IVP dictionaries in depth or content. It helps especially, when most of the scholars who contributed to the IVP Reference have a high view of the scriptures[:)].
Seriously sell your bed and make the purchase straight away. This is one purchase I can say with confidence you will not regret if you go for it. Is it value for money for the amount of resources contained in the IVP Reference -Yes

In my opinion it is better than the Anchor Bible Dictionary and ISBE beause it is more up to date. The bibliographies in the OT/NT dictionaries are some of the best around. Logos also has two of the OT Dictionaries that are really good resources too.

The IVP Essential Reference Collection was one of the first things that I added to my Logos library. I think everyone should have it.
I added the IVP OT Dictionary bundle when it became available.
Great stuff.

Agreed! I do rate the IVP Dictionaries more than ABD & ISBE not just b/cos it is more up to date. IMO the IVP dictionaries are less speculative than the Anchor Bible Dictionary in their entries, politely put.

Don't hesitate! As others have already said, their value exceeds their cost.

Alright everybody, are you sure you're not just trying to get me to buy them because you're not happy with them and you just want me to make the same mistake you did in spending money on it? [6] LOL...just kidding! [8-|] I already ordered the CD!!! It should get here sometime Wednesday or Thursday the latest. Thanks for all of your input! What really struck me was the comment that in some respect it's better than the more expensive AYBD volumes. I like ABD from what I've seen, but I think it's a little bit over priced...but then again, I don't own it --- but the fact that these other dictionaries are more up-to-date and less speculative that really gives me the assurance that I'll be happy enough with the IVP's dictionaries. I hope the OT sets get to be on sale for x-mas to get them too. Thanks again![Y] [:)] I'm really looking forward to seeing my IVP Background NT and now OT commentaries showing up on my passage guide in Logos 4!!!

One last question, this one is for Milkman: Do the P90X DVD's really work? I've lost 14lbs recently and now I'm trying to start working out to get "ripped." So I was curious if the home work out system really works - I see that you have it listed on your Bio. Let me know, I might "borrow" the DVD's from you...LOL

Yes it works if you eat right but it is an INCREDIBLY hard workout.

I gleaned some fantastic information from the IVP Background OT commentary the other day that I didn't find in any of my "big name" commentaries. I own the IVP Reference Library and would fully recommend it as well.
