Best way to browse / verify library?

I upgraded to Logos 4 in January. In the last day or so, I upgraded my edition so I could get more books that I was interested in. Last night, the download of all the new content seems to have completed and been installed / indexed. However, I can't find a great way to verify this.

1) Is there someplace within the Logos software itself that I can go to verify the edition I'm licensed for (e.g. Silver, Gold, Platinum)? I know I can find that online, but that's not where it's important to be correct. The "About" box shows I'm running 4.1, but nothing about the edition.

2) Is the only way to browse my library by clicking on the Library icon in the upper left and scrolling through that window that sort of drops down over the main screen area? That's a very painful way to browse through a large library. If there's any current way to do that in a more user friendly fashion, I'd love to hear about that - more library items visible at once and more visible details about each item. (Note that I have seen that there are some different views for that window and that I can get detail on the right about the currently highlighted library item, but that still doesn't seem good enough to me.)

No there isn't. Just, as you found, info about the software edition.

No, you can drag the Library (book) icon to the layout portion of your screen and drop it and it will become a separate pane just as other resources and tools. If you want it as big as possible use CTRL+F11 to float the panel and re-size it on your screen.

You can create a bibliography in Logos. See the wiki page below for instructions

You can also go to Mark Barnes website. He has a couple really nice tools for viewing information about your library. You can trust anything on his website regarding information you have to enter and/or upload.

If you are unaware of it, you can click on type, in your library and then just open up and close specific groups of books. This kind of divides up your library in more manageable sections so it's not so overwhelming.

It is a column heading in Library (extreme left below). There are a number of these including Title (the default sort heading). You can access additional ones by right clicking in the header area. You can drag them to resort them.

Thank you, Mark. That was helpful. I've lost count the number of times I've said Thank you to Logos, incl MVPs in the last 24 hours. OK, I wasted a couple of hours struggling with repeated crashes. But that's patched up a day later and should be solved in the next SR5 update. (Doesn't that make me feel my problems are taken seriously by Logos, i.e. they care about me who am suffering the teething troubles. And teething troubles have driven me to the forums, where I've made friends (as well as spending more time than I should....). Somewhat off subject, but wanted to say it [;)]

Thank you very much for these hints. That advice will probably be sufficient for me to more easily browse my library without my eyes glazing over. Now they just need to add something to the "About" box to explicitly state the edition I've purchased.

No, you can drag the Library (book) icon to the layout portion of your screen and drop it and it will become a separate pane just as other resources and tools. If you want it as big as possible use CTRL+F11 to float the panel and re-size it on your screen.

You can also press Ctrl+L and the library will open in a floating window. You can maximize this to be able to see more books at once, and keep it up all the time (which is what I do) and that way it won't be cluttering your layout, but you can Alt+Tab back and forth between it and the rest of your layout easily.

Another thing I've gotten in the habit of doing (it took some time to get myself established on this system but once I did it's pretty easy to keep going with it) is tag all my resources in my library with either Base:xxxx (where xxxx is the name of the base package I aquired that resource through; I've upgraded a couple of times so there are several different ones in my library) or Bundle:yyyy (where yyyy is the name of the bundle/collection I bought something with). For all of the later and also for single title purchases, I also include Bought:YYYYMMDD with the date I bought it. In this way I have confirmed that all the resources that I bought (which I can check on my Account page on Logos's website) are indeed in my library and tagged accordingly. I'd notice immediately if anything I bought did not show up.

I wonder if someone on the forums (or at Logos) might consider defining collections which include the resources for each of the base packages?

I've sometimes thought it would be nice if Logos offered some predefined starter collections users could enable. I know a number of useful ones are on the Wiki, but knowing what to do with those is more advanced than many new users' skills allow.

The examples on the wiki, combined with the other information on the wiki are a good start to begin building collections for your library.

I would recommend identifying the examples that you think would meet your needs and begin building them in your system. It is very easy to simply copy and paste the rule from the wiki page into rule line in the collection pane. As you begin working with the collection examples, you will probably find yourself beinning to think about other collection rules that will meet your needs.

I know in L3 we had the ability to load collections built by other users. Initially I had quite of those; but what I found is that I seldom used many, if not most of them. The funtionality of collections in L4 IMO has great value once you begin to play with it.
