Yes. Publisher:Galaxie

Of course you have to spell it like it is found under the Publisher column of your Library. You can use just the first part of a name in cases where that causes no confusion (Moody instead of Moody Press).

No. Because there is no metadata for publisher collections in Library.

Can you create a collection based on author of articles in resources or journals?

No. For the same reason given above.

You can create collections based on the data revealed in your Library. Right clcik on the column header to see all the different forms of data available.

Mark can't you create collections manually? I made all my collections by making them manually. Just click and drag.

No. Because there is no metadata for publisher collections in Library.

While there's no way to create such a collection automatically using the metadata fields, you could assign a tag (say "GoodlyHeritage") to all the books that came with the Goodly Heritage Library collection (they're listed on the website) and then make a collection based on that tag using the rule mytag:GoodlyHeritage.

It should be fairly easy to tag them all. It's easiest to do this all when in Grid View (click the View button at the top to see multiple columns in your library if you don't see the column headers currently). First filter your library to show only the books published by Galaxie (to do this type Galaxie into the Find box in your Library). Then with your web browser open to the product description page, keep toggling back and forth between that page and your Logos library (using Alt+Tab), as you select each of the titles in turn in your Library. Clicking on the first one, then hold down the Ctrl key while you click on each subsequent one. (Be careful not to click on the title or icon of a book because that will open it. You can click on any of the other fields.) Once you've got all the titles you want to tag selected, click on the icon to open the panel on the right side (you can't have the Prioritize panel open or you won't see the ; click on Browse instead of Prioritize at the upper right if that is the case). Now you can click on add tag, type in your tag, and press Enter to assign the tag to all these selected titles at once.

Oh my! Click and drag is the hardest way to make collections in L4. That's a holdover from the old L3 way of making them. No worries if you've already done it. But it must have been a lot of work! Multi-selecting (as I just described above) and tagging, or dynamic collections using rules based on metadata are both much easier. And easier to change later if you need to.

Of course, but your collections don't change when new metadata comes out. It took a little while, but it is safer. And if you want to make collections any way you want as the poster wishes, it is the only way to do it. But is certainly can be done.

True but most of my collections are based on my tags, and those don't change when new metadata comes out. Drag and drop isn't the only way to do it if you want to make collections any way you want. It might be more intuitive than tagging, though. And indeed it is probably safer in that it is less prone to user error. :-)

Thanks for your comments. I did check out that page and other pages before asking my question. I did try a collection called Publisher:Galaxie but I think I am fairly correct to say it did not produce a collection of all the Galaxie material I have in my library.

The Publisher tagging of the Galaxie material seems to be a bit peculiar. Most of their journals list as publisher the actual publisher of the journal, which would be correct in my thinking. The three shown below (all that are tagged with Galaxie as publisher in my library) really shouldn't be shown as published by Galaxie.

So for someone like Galaxie that electronically publishes mostly other publishers material you are stuck. Bits and Bytes works for the only reference I have for them.Thomas Nelson has eight different Publisher names in my Library. Publisher:Nelson catches all of them. So it is variable. Sort your Library by Publisher to see what you can and can't accomplish using this search criterion.

I did assume that you wanted an 'automatic' way to get the tasks done you asked about. Some others have suggested work-arounds. Personally tagging books is one way to do this. You can multi-select resources in Library view and add a tag to all of them in one tagging operation. This is quicker than manually creating a collection if the collection is more than a few volumes. You could tag the Galaxie resources rather quickly if you wanted to.

Someday Logos might let us edit Search results and create a collection based on the edited results. That would make creating collections of articles written by a specific author possible. For research purposes this might be very useful.

Yes, as Graham replied, you can add multiple tags. But why would you want to add a tag to any resource for something that already exists in the metadata? That would be unnecessary laborious work. The author and type are already coded in for every resource in your Library. So you can have a collection of Author A and one of Author B and one of Author A OR Author B. Just do it this way:

author:(Calvin, Luther)

or to be sure you don't pick up authors who happen to have the first name Calvin or Luther, you might want to do it this way:

author:("John Calvin", "Martin Luther")

Use the tags for categorizing your resources in other ways that the fields in the Library don't already do for you. (And in case you haven't yet seen all the fields that the Library supplies already for you, right click on any column header in the library when it's in Grid View.) One of the main things people use tags for is grouping resources that don't necessarily share common words or phrases in their titles or descriptions, but which still have some logical connection in the user's mind. For instance I've got a tag called Arts which I've applied to all the books I've come across in my library that have to do with faith and the arts. It's quite a broad topic so it isn't something I could pick up just by making a dynamic collection based on the subject field. Other things people use tags for are what bundle they bought the resource as part of, the date they bought it, whether they've read the book (FINISHED) or are planning to read it (TOREAD) or are in the middle of it (READING). Sometimes you have to use tags to create series out of a group of books that should have been grouped together already as a series by Logos but which they've so far neglected to fill in the series field for.

I needed an example for what I was saying and could not think up one on the fly - Yes, I know about some of the metadata - have a collection based on E publish date
